Purpose:
The purpose of the Finance Manager: Treasury & Balance Sheet Risk is to provide end-to-end visibility, control and IFRS-compliant reporting for all SPAR Groceries and Liquor’s balance sheet exposures, working capital performance and liquidity risk.
This role ensures that the full spectrum of retailer related exposures – including bond perfected stores, retailer capital calls, put and call options, and headlease obligations – are accurately captured, measured, forecast and reported.
The role governs collections performance and working capital across the DC’s, owns the cash forecasting process, and serves as the primary reporting interface to the Credit Committee and Loans & Leases Committee. IFRS technical accounting for complex exposures is supported by the IFRS & Technical Accounting Specialist within the Technical & Reporting team; this role is accountable for the accurate application of those positions within its exposure mandate. Credit policy, Treasury policy and the related governance are owned by Group Finance; this role enforces and applies those standards within G&L.
Minimum Requirements:
- CA(SA), CIMA, CFA, or relevant qualification
- At least 5 years in a senior leadership role
- Proven expertise in strong commercial judgement and risk assessment capability
- Demonstrated experience cash forecasting, liquidity management and working capital improvements
- IFRS literacy — IFRS 9, IFRS 16, IAS 32 as applied to retailer exposures (technical production supported by Technical & Reporting team)
- Experience with Committee and Board-level reporting
Key Performance Areas:
- Manage and monitor retailer-related balance sheet exposures, including loans, security instruments, capital calls, lease obligations and other risk exposures.
- Provide accurate and timely reporting of balance sheet risks, ensuring compliance with Group policies, governance standards and IFRS requirements.
- Lead the cash forecasting process, delivering reliable liquidity insights and supporting funding and cash management decisions.
- Drive working capital performance through effective collections governance, debtor management and cash conversion improvement initiatives.
- Monitor portfolio risk and develop early-warning indicators to identify and mitigate emerging financial exposures.
- Partner with Distribution Centers, Group Finance and business stakeholders to strengthen controls, improve reporting quality and support risk-based decision-making.
- Prepare and present insightful reporting and analysis for Credit Committee, Loans & Leases Committee and executive stakeholders.
- Support audit, governance and compliance activities by maintaining robust control frameworks and ensuring the integrity of financial information.
- Lead the development and enhancement of balance sheet risk reporting, dashboards and analytics to provide greater visibility of financial exposures and emerging risks.
