Job Purpose

CPUT is recruiting a Finance Manager to oversee three business Units within the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment (FEBE) and Technology Transfer Office (TTO) respectively.
The Finance Manager will be responsible for the integrated financial management and licensing oversight across the four CPUT units, these are:
Technology Transfer and Industry Linkages (TT&IL) Office, the Technology Station:
Clothing and Textiles (TSCT), the Agrifood Technology Station (ATS), and South African Renewable Energy Technology Centre (SARETEC).
The role ensures financial integrity, funder compliance, intellectual property (IP) revenue management, and strategic financial support to each unit in accordance with the relevant legislative frameworks including the IPR Act (51 of 2008), the PFMA, IFRS, and applicable CPUT financial policies to achieve efficient financial management and reporting, funder compliance, IP cost-tracking, licensing income management, and strategic financial support to all the funding streams and / or Projects.

The position is hosted at SARETEC with periodic visits to the other three offices as and when required.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • BCom Accounting / Finance degree (NQF Level
    7) or equivalent.
  • BCom Honours or professional designation advantageous (CA(SA), CIMA, ACCA).
  • Minimum 5 years’ financial management experience.
  • Experience in multi‑funder / grant‑funded environments essential.
  • Knowledge of PFMA, IFRS, VAT, and IPR Act (51 of 2008) advantageous.

Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities

  • Financial management and multi‑unit reporting in line with CPUT’s internal governance structures within (respective Boards, Management Committees and Senate, etc.)
  • IP financial oversight and licensing income management
  • Funder reporting (i.e., TIA, NIPMO, DSTI) including other special projects such as Skills for Green and Just Energy Transition (Skills4

    JET), GIZ TVET support among others.

  • Strategic financial analysis and budgeting
  • Stakeholder engagement and cross‑unit coordination

Technical / Functional Competencies

  • Funder reporting (TIA, NIPMO, DSI, KfW and GIZ and respective future funders as per project specific requirements) across several governance structures within CPUT (respective Boards, Management Committees and Senate, etc.)
  • IP financial tracking and licensing management
  • Financial systems (ITS / ERP) and other international financial management and reporting practices
  • R&D / grant finance, management and respective project reporting
  • Financial Quality Assurance (Funders proposals / Contracting)
  • Strategic thinking and problem solving
  • Attention to detail and follow‑through
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Professionalism and integrity
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and working under pressure
