The Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the financial health, integrity, and sustainability of the organisation. This role provides strategic and operational financial leadership by ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective budgeting and forecasting, sound financial controls, and compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements. The Finance Manager supports executive decision-making through financial analysis and insights, manages cash flow and working capital, and ensures that financial risks are identified and mitigated.
Acting as a key business partner to management, the Finance Manager ensures financial discipline, transparency, and alignment between financial strategy and organisational objectives.

Duties:
Financial Planning & Strategy
- Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with the organisation’s business objectives.
- Support executive management with financial modelling, scenario planning, and strategic financial insights.
- Analyse financial trends, performance indicators, and variances to guide decision-making.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Prepare and manage annual budgets and rolling forecasts.
- Monitor budget performance and provide regular variance analysis and corrective recommendations.
- Work with departmental heads to ensure budgets are realistic, controlled, and aligned with strategic priorities.
Financial Reporting
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and internal financial policies.
- Provide clear and meaningful financial reports to senior management and stakeholders.
Cash Flow & Working Capital Management
- Manage and forecast cash flow to ensure operational sustainability.
- Oversee debtors, creditors, and working capital to optimise liquidity.
- Implement controls to improve cash collection and manage payment cycles effectively.
Financial Controls & Governance
- Establish, maintain, and enforce strong financial controls and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and tax requirements.
- Support internal and external audits and address audit findings promptly.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Identify financial risks and implement mitigation strategies.
- Ensure adherence to financial governance frameworks and risk policies.
- Monitor exposure to operational, credit, and compliance risks.
Payroll & Statutory Compliance
- Oversee payroll processes ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance.
- Ensure timely submission and payment of statutory obligations including tax, UIF, and related filings.
- Stay abreast of legislative changes affecting payroll and financial compliance.
Stakeholder & Business Partnering
- Act as a financial advisor and business partner to management and department heads.
- Liaise with external stakeholders including auditors, banks, tax authorities, and service providers.
- Provide financial input into contracts, pricing, and commercial negotiations.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Oversee and optimise financial systems and accounting software.
- Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and reporting quality.
- Ensure financial data integrity and system controls.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, manage, and develop the finance team to ensure high performance and accountability.
- Set clear objectives, conduct performance reviews, and identify training needs.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, professionalism, and ethical conduct.
Reporting & Communication
- Prepare and present financial reports, dashboards, and insights to executive management.
- Provide regular updates on financial performance, risks, and opportunities.
- Serve as a key escalation point for financial matters.
Continuous Improvement
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the finance function.
- Implement best practices in financial management, reporting, and controls.
- Ensure lessons learned are documented and applied to future financial planning.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Experience & Knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
- Professional qualification such as CA(SA), CIMA, ACCA, or SAIPA will be highly advantageous.
- Postgraduate qualification (Honours / MBA) will be beneficial.
- Minimum 5–8 years’ experience in a Finance Manager, Financial Controller, or senior finance role.
- Proven experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Strong experience managing cash flow, working capital, debtors, and creditors.
- Demonstrated experience with statutory compliance, tax, and audit processes.
- Experience leading and managing a finance team.
- Exposure to financial systems implementation or optimisation will be advantageous.
