Role Description The Field Technician role is a full-time, hybrid position based in the Western Cape, with some work-from-home flexibility. Day-to-day responsibilities include visiting farms to collect soil and leaf samples and recording field data accurately. The Field Technician will support agronomists with trial setups, monitoring crop performance, and assisting in on-farm research activities. The role also involves organizing sample shipments, updating digital records, communicating findings to the consulting team, and following health, safety, and environmental procedures.
Qualifications
- Relevant agricultural, agronomy, or natural sciences qualification (certificate, diploma, or degree) and familiarity with crop production systems.
- Experience with fieldwork, including sample collection, basic measurements, and use of agricultural tools or monitoring equipment.
- Ability to accurately record and manage data, use spreadsheets or farm management software, and follow structured sampling protocols.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel regularly to farms in the area and surrounding regions.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently in the field and collaborate with agronomists and farmers.
- Attention to detail, problem-solving mindset, and commitment to safety and environmentally responsible practices.
- Prior experience in agronomy consulting, irrigation management, or soil and plant analysis is an advantage.
