The Opportunity

We’re looking for a hands-on Field Service Engineer to ensure the quality, testing and commissioning of complex audio-visual systems, in staging and on site. You’ll work to the highest technical and commercial standard, making sure systems are installed, tested and handed over reliably and that AVT’s reputation for quality delivery is upheld.

This is an individual contributor role based out of our Cape Town office. You’ll report to the Head of Technical and work closely with Project Managers, the wider technical team and Service Delivery to ensure AV systems are delivered and supported as scoped, partnering with Projects, Sales and Service Delivery and acting as customer liaison in the absence of a Project Manager.

What You’ll Do

●     Review the project Scope of Work to ensure quality and completeness of installation.

●     Test point-to-point functionality of systems, including control programs and DSP systems.

●     Diagnose errors or technical problems and determine appropriate resolutions.

●     Configure and troubleshoot IP-addressable devices to establish communication on a network.

●     Provide high-level service and customer support escalations, including installations and call-outs.

●     Read and interpret electronic schematics and architectural drawings.

●     Maintain efficiency in billable hours and punctuality in accordance with project and service schedules.

●     Act as customer liaison in the absence of a Project Manager, understanding customer requirements and making recommendations where appropriate.

●     Communicate regularly and accurately with the wider technical team, providing feedback on progress, issues and outcomes.

●     Build positive relationships with customers, ensuring AVT is well represented at every interaction.

●     Follow company procedures and documentation requirements, including those specific to the customer’s site.

●     Continuously improve, ensure compliance with, and implement strategy for Health and Safety in line with applicable law and good practice.

●     Continually seek opportunities to increase customer satisfaction and deepen client relationships, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of products, best practices and industry trends.

What You’ll Bring (Must-Haves)

●     A relevant technical qualification in electronics, AV or a related field.

●     Demonstrated experience testing and commissioning complex Audio-Visual systems.

●     Experience reading electronic schematics and architectural drawings.

●     Working knowledge of control programs and DSP systems.

●     Working knowledge of IP networking as applied to AV and control systems.

●     Matric / National Senior Certificate (Grade 12), a valid driver’s licence and a willingness to travel to site as required.

Nice to Have (Will Set You Apart)

●     CTS or equivalent AV certification (AVIXA CTS, etc.).

●     Certification in major AV systems: DSP, control, AVoIP and similar.

●     Previous IT experience, particularly networking.

●     Experience with commercial, corporate or retail AV installations.

●     A track record in a customer-facing field service or on-site support role.

Our Values and How You’ll Live Them

We care as much about how you work as what you achieve. Our four values guide how we show up every day, and we’re looking for someone who brings them to life:

●     Winning: you win for our customers, our business and each other by delivering AV systems that are commissioned right and perform reliably from day one.

●     Diligence: you seize every opportunity to grow technical competence, approaching each installation, test and diagnosis with accuracy, care and rigour.

●     Responsive: you’re accountable and reliable, responding promptly to escalations, call-outs and colleague requests and following through on every commitment.

●     Customer Centric: you add value at every touch point, from scope review through final commissioning, ensuring the customer’s system performs exactly as designed.

Why AVT

●     Real opportunity to build deep technical expertise across a wide range of AV systems and technologies.

●     Work on varied, interesting projects for local and international clients.

●     A fun, fast-paced environment where a love of technology and a strong work ethic thrive.
