Timac Agro South Africa, part of a leading international fertiliser and biostimulant group, is seeking a practical, field-driven Agronomist to join our technical team.
This is a non-sales, hands-on agronomy role focused on supporting Technical Sales Representatives and growers with expert crop nutrition and soil science advice. The successful candidate will work extensively in the field, helping to improve crop performance across both row crops (maize, wheat, soybeans) and high-value crops.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working directly with farmers, solving real agronomic challenges, and applying technical knowledge in practical farming environments.
Duties & Responsibilities
Agronomic Support
- Provide technical agronomy support to sales representatives during on-farm visits
- Develop and recommend crop nutrition and fertilisation programmes
- Interpret soil and plant tissue analysis results and provide actionable recommendations
- Diagnose crop stress, nutrient deficiencies, and environmental challenges
Field Work & Crop Management
- Conduct regular crop inspections across diverse farming operations
- Work across a wide range of crops including row crops and high-value crops
- Support farmers with practical, on-farm agronomic solutions
Trials, Training & Technical Support
- Assist with field trials, demonstrations, and data collection
- Deliver technical training and presentations to sales teams and stakeholders
- Support product positioning through practical agronomic evidence
Relationship Management
- Build strong relationships with growers, distributors, and internal teams
- Act as a trusted technical advisor in the field
- Provide ongoing agronomic support to improve customer outcomes
Reporting
- Record field visits, recommendations, and trial data accurately
- Provide structured feedback to internal teams on crop performance and market insights
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Soil Science, Agriculture, or related field
- 3–5 years practical, field-based agronomy experience
- Strong experience in:
- Soil sampling and interpretation
- Leaf/tissue sampling
- Fertilisation programme development and recommendations
- Experience working with row crops (maize, wheat, soybeans)
- Strong understanding of soil science and plant nutrition
- Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel extensively (60–80%)
