Duties:
Responsible for the overall executive management and providing visionary leadership aligned with the institutional strategy.
Responsible for the strategic management and leadership of the Faculty in teaching and learning, research, internationalisation, innovation, and social impact.
Promoting opportunities that unlock research funding.
Promoting research excellence and supporting recruitment and retention of talent.
Promoting interdisciplinary excellence and transdisciplinary research.
Enhancing the Faculty’s academic reputation through external partnerships.
Driving the Faculty’s transformation agenda to promote diversity.
Collaborating with the University’s leadership to drive the overall institutional agenda.
Responsible for sustainable financial management of the Faculty.
Providing guidance and overseeing strategic enrolment management.
Providing leadership regarding all student and staff matters.
Requirements:
Strong academic credentials with national/international recognition and eligibility for appointment as professor.
Proven track record of strategic leadership.
Comprehensive understanding of the higher education sector.
Senior management experience at faculty and institutional levels.
Demonstrated experience in promoting excellence in academic quality.
Sound communication and interpersonal skills.
A track record of promoting diversity and transformation.
Evidence of relationship building and management of networks.
Evidence of values-based leadership aligned to Stellenbosch University’s core values.
Recommendations:
At least five years’ experience at senior management level.
Experience in promoting interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research.
Experience of engagement with professional bodies and/or the private/public sector.
Term of appointment: Five years with the possibility of reappointment.
Commencement of duties: 01 May 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.
