What You’ll Do
As an Expert Consultant – Refinery Operations or Capital Projects, you will bring deep industry expertise to BCG’s work with refining and energy clients. Depending on your background, you will contribute expertise in refinery operations and performance improvement or in the development and delivery of large-scale refinery capital projects.
Working as part of multidisciplinary teams, you will combine your technical knowledge with structured problem solving and analytical rigor to address complex client challenges. You will help shape practical solutions, provide technical perspectives, and translate analysis into clear recommendations that deliver meaningful client impact. Your responsibilities will include:
- Advise clients on refinery operations, performance improvement, strategy, digital transformation, or capital-project delivery.
- Apply deep expertise in either refinery operations or refinery capital projects to complex client challenges.
- For operations-focused work, assess refinery performance and identify opportunities to improve operational and technical outcomes.
- For capital-project work, support projects from feasibility and Pre-FEED/FEED through execution, including CAPEX, risk, and engineering considerations.
- Structure and conduct rigorous analyses to generate insights and practical recommendations for clients.
- Lead key workstreams with autonomy, maintaining alignment with overall project objectives, quality standards, and timelines.
- Communicate technical insights clearly to BCG teams and clients, helping inform decisions and support implementation.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary and international teams, including client teams and relevant engineering organizations.
What You’ll Bring
- 5–10 years of relevant experience, with substantial hands-on exposure to refinery operations or capital projects.
- For operations profiles, direct experience operating, supporting, or optimizing refinery units and processes.
- For capital-project profiles, direct engineering experience across major refinery projects, including FEED/EPC and execution.
- Strong technical depth to diagnose refinery challenges, identify performance levers, and develop practical solutions.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to structure unfamiliar problems and quickly build understanding of new topics.
- Experience working effectively across multidisciplinary teams and communicating with technical and non-technical audiences.
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering or another relevant technical field.
