Executive Dean of Applied and Computer Sciences speaks to an accomplished academic leader to shape the strategic direction and operational excellence of the Faculty. The role is based in Vanderbijlpark and reports directly to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor:
Teaching and Learning. The successful candidate will drive institutional vision and performance across teaching, research, community engagement, and student development within a technically advanced educational environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead the academic and strategic development of the Faculty in alignment with institutional vision, mission, values and strategic objectives across teaching and learning, research, community engagement, postgraduate studies, and quality assurance.
- Oversee curriculum and programme development, ensuring regular review of academic offerings and implementation of quality teaching and learning approaches.
- Establish research priorities, develop research partnerships, build research capacity, and increase the percentage of research-active academic staff within the Faculty.
- Manage all human, financial and infrastructural resources to optimise Faculty performance and achieve short and long-term academic goals.
- Promote student academic development and support services, manage student affairs matters, and foster positive staff-student relations.
- Lead community engagement initiatives, develop multi-stakeholder partnerships with academic institutions, civil society, government and business, and integrate community engagement across Faculty activities.
- Develop and implement quality assurance systems meeting internal standards and external regulatory requirements.
- Identify and manage risks within Faculty operations and ensure compliance with safety, health and environmental policies.
- Contribute to institutional policy development and provide feedback on implementation practices.
- Support fundraising initiatives and explore alternative funding opportunities for core academic activities.
- Serve on key institutional committees including Senate and Faculty Board.
Minimum Requirements
- Doctorate degree qualification.
- Demonstrated expertise in Computer Science and/or Applied Sciences disciplines.
- Proven experience in academic leadership or senior academic management.
