JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: ESTIMATOR

DEPARTMENT: DURBAN

MAIN PURPOSE:

To provide estimates to existing and new clients

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  1. Estimates/Rate Proposals/Tenders (Air, Sea – Import, Exports & Cross Trades)
  2. Negotiate rates with Service Providers, Agents, and branch offices
  3. Follow up on estimates and report back on gained estimates and any losses
  4. Assist the Durban sales team with any administrative support they may require
  5. Accuracy and attention to detail
  6. Good geographical knowledge
  7. Manage multiple projects
  8. Time Management
  9. Client service excellence

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Produce estimates accurately and timeously on request. 

1.1 Analyse the shipment details, incoterms and requirements. 

1.2 Ensure all appropriate rates, incoterms and rules are applied when producing an estimate. 

1.3 Request and negotiate rates from Service providers, agents and offices. 

1.4 Confirm tariff headings, duty requirements as per descriptions of the goods with the Customs department. 

1.5 Suggest alternative solutions for cost savings to clients. High volume and high value shipments must be discussed with management for their assistance. 

1.6 Checking country requirements for exports. 

1.7 Preparing estimates on Cargo Wise. 

1.8 Ensure all client correspondence and rates received are filed in Edoc’s on CW. 

1.9 Only submit an approved estimate to the client. 

1.10 Follow up with clients telephonically regarding the acceptance of estimates. 

1.11 If client did not accept the estimate, propose a re-negotiation and submit estimate again. 

1.12 Communicate with the sales person involved and the operations teams on accepted estimates in order to streamline the estimate with the booking of the shipment. 

1.13 Resolve all client queries and complaints regarding estimates. 

1.14 Provide the sales staff with leads. 

1.15 Handling of Agent and branch office rate requests and assisting with information needed. 

1.16 Reporting on auto-rating errors on Cargo Wise. 

1.17 Assist with rate updates on Cargo Wise when asked. 

1.18 Follow the SOP provided.

Health and Safety 2.1 Comply with all health and safety procedures and regulations stipulated in the Occupational Health and Safety Act No. 85 of 1993.

Quality Standards 3.1 Adhere to ISO 9001:2015 quality standards and procedures. 3.2 Participate in ensuring that company service performance objectives are achieved. 3.3 Identify and record non-conformities with regards to their process. 3.4 Take corrective action as instructed.

Training of company learners 4.1 Participate in the company learner program and assist new staff with training where necessary.
