The Position

The primary function of the Engineering Technician is to provide front line assistance for equipment and facilities in support of the Operations and Reagent and Assay Development Functional Units at Roche DIA Cape Town. This individual is responsible for completion of all planned and unplanned maintenance work orders for both internal execution as well as execution by third party service providers.

The Opportunity

Conducts or schedules, co-ordinates and supervises Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and Calibration with external Service Providers via indirect procurement as prompted by the computerised maintenance management system within the designated time frames

Troubleshoots equipment in an adequate manner with respect to a controlled production environment and in close communication with key stakeholders

Completes relevant work orders for all Calibration, planned and unplanned Maintenance activities

Ensures that the necessary databases/software systems are updated with work progress to reflect current status

Notifies Contact Persons/Department Managers and QA of any failed PPM or Calibration and ensures that systems are labelled appropriately

Keeps a running inventory of all parts and components used during PPM and keeps replacement stock of parts on hand

Contributes to Continuous Improvement of these key systems by investigating the feasibility of consolidating outsourced PPM and Calibrations to in-house activities

Assist with the routine activities related to the environmental monitoring program i.e. temperature monitoring, water sampling and associated activities

Who You Are

Tertiary qualification in Engineering or a related discipline (e.g. Instrumentation, Electrical), or a recgnized trade qualification in Instrumentation/Electrical combined with a minimum of 3 years’ relevant industry experience

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Manufacturing / Engineering, preferably in a Biotech, pharmaceutical or diagnostic equipment industry

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Able to work under pressure, flexible work hours and to tight deadlines

Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical issues to management and non-technical audiences, as well as interface with the third-party service providers on a regular basis

Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and prioritize deliverable execution in a multifaceted environment

Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to navigate to get support through a large corporate international organization
