Job Summary:
We are seeking a young, qualified engineer or construction manager with 1-5 years of experience to join our team in Durban. This role involves working on various construction projects, primarily site-based, with significant travel between different project sites. The ideal candidate should be a hard-working, fast learner with strong problem-solving and management skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with clients.
Key Responsibilities:
• Site Management:
Manage and oversee day-to-day operations at construction sites, ensuring that projects are executed efficiently, safely, and in line with project specifications.
• Travel:
Majority of the time will be spent on-site or traveling between sites on day trips.
• Client Relations:
Engage with clients regularly, providing updates on project progress and addressing any client concerns. Strong people skills are essential as the role is client-facing.
• Team Supervision:
Lead site teams, ensuring that work is completed on time and in compliance with health, safety, and quality standards. Provide direction and support to junior team members as needed.
• Problem Solving:
Use critical thinking and problem-solving skills to address issues that may arise on-site, ensuring minimal disruption to project timelines.
• Reporting:
Regularly report on project progress, issues, and solutions to senior management and clients. Maintain accurate records of site activities.
• Coordination:
Ensure that all resources (materials, labor, equipment) are available and organized for smooth operations on-site.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience:
• 1-5 years of experience in engineering or construction management (we are also open to considering recent graduates).
Skills:
• Strong leadership and management abilities.
• Excellent problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication skills, especially in client-facing situations.
• Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new situations.
• Willingness to travel and work on-site.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and work efficiently under pressure.
