About Chommies
Chommies is a South African premium lifestyle brand born in Cape Town, designing accessories for dogs and the people who love them. From leather collars and leads to travel accessories, care essentials and a growing range of human pieces inspired by the bond between dog and owner — every product is made with craft, story and a sense of place.
We sell through our flagship store, our online shop, and a curated set of South African retail partners, alongside a small, beautifully crafted Mohair line built around the Karoo Angora goat. Growth is being driven by scaling retail and direct-to-consumer e-commerce as our primary channels, with selective wholesale through exclusive partners.
The Role
The eCommerce & Digital Marketing Growth manager owns the digital commerce engine end-to-end — the Shopify store, the systems behind it, SEO and the paid and email channels that drive traffic and revenue to it. This is a hands-on, commercially minded role for someone equally comfortable rebuilding a product page, running a Meta campaign, and reporting channel profitability to leadership.
You will bring performance marketing fully in-house, replacing the work currently delivered by our external agency, while owning the store itself — merchandising, UX, conversion, and the integrations that keep data flowing accurately between Shopify, our ERP, and our marketing platforms. You’ll work closely with the Founder & Creative Director as well as the Brand & Marketing Manager to keep every digital touchpoint commercially effective and true to the brand. You will be responsible for mentoring and guiding the eCommerce coordinator into becoming an experienced resource for the digital department, supporting you on execution where needed.
Key Responsibilities
eCommerce Operations & CRO
- Own and maintain our two Shopify stores end-to-end — product listings, pricing, inventory visibility, collections, navigation and merchandising. Lead the eCommerce coordinator to support the day to day running of our online stores.
- Ensure all customer-facing information is accurate and current at all times.
- Build and update landing pages, banners and seasonal layouts; re-merchandise for launches, sales events and seasonal shifts.
- Own general UX/UI quality of the storefront, identifying and resolving friction across the customer journey.
- Lead conversion rate optimisation through audits and hypothesis-driven page and flow improvements.
- Lead SEO and AEO through optimised web content, regular publishing and technical error fixes
Systems & Integrations
- Manage how Shopify integrates with our ERP (Cin7) and marketing platforms (Klaviyo), including data flow, stock sync and order/fulfilment logic
- Diagnose, escalate and resolve integration issues as they arise
- Manage Shopify apps and integrations
- Troubleshoot basic technical issues and escalate where needed
- Ensure site speed, mobile optimisation, and functionality are maintained
- Support implementation of new tools, features, or integrations
Performance Marketing
- Take full ownership of paid acquisition across Meta, Google and emerging channels, replacing the work currently delivered by our external agency.
- Build and manage the paid media budget against clear MER, ROAS and CAC targets.
- Brief creative for paid campaigns and work with design resource on execution.
- Set up and maintain reporting, attribution and tracking infrastructure (pixels, UTM discipline, Shopify analytics) as part of the transition to in-house.
Email Marketing
- Own list growth and segmentation strategy in Klaviyo
- Design, build and schedule campaigns and automated flows
- Leverage email as the primary lever for repeat purchase rate and retention
Reporting & Performance Analysis
- Track and report on e-commerce performance — revenue, conversion rate, AOV, stock-outs and channel contribution — against monthly and quarterly targets.
- Report on paid media performance (MER, ROAS by platform, CAC, CPR), reconciling platform-reported figures against Shopify as source of truth.
- Report on Klaviyo-attributed revenue, flow vs. campaign performance, and list health.
- Deliver a consistent weekly digital performance report and monthly efficiency analysis to leadership.
- Prepare for and contribute to quarterly reviews with the Founder and CFO — profitability, KPI progress and recommendations.
What You Bring
- 6+ years’ experience across e-commerce and performance marketing, ideally within a premium or DTC brand
- Hands-on paid media experience (Meta Blueprint certificate, Google Ads Certificates)
- Strong working experience of Shopify (essential), including catalogue management, merchandising, CRO and UX optimisation.
- Experienced in working on email marketing platforms (Klaviyo or equivalent) – flows, segmentation and campaign build.
- Comfortable working with or learning integrations between Shopify, an ERP, and marketing platforms.
- Strong commercial instinct — you can read a P&L, manage a budget, and reason about the right spend level for a premium brand.
- A self-starter with a can-do attitude — comfortable working on your own and resourceful in finding solutions
- Strong written and verbal communication, with the discipline to report consistently and clearly.
- Good eye for design and brand consistency
Bonus
- Experience in retail or omnichannel businesses.
- Fast paced agency experience
- Background in fashion, lifestyle, accessories, pet or design-led product categories.
- Experience with Cin7 or a similar inventory/ERP system.
What We Offer
- A senior, high-ownership role in one of South Africa’s most distinctive growing brands.
- Direct access to and partnership with the Founder and Creative Director.
- The opportunity to build the digital backbone of a brand with strong foundations and ambitious goals.
- A close-knit team culture in Cape Town.
- Our offices are dog friendly (obviously!)
