The overall objective of this driver trainer role is to conduct in-cab training, on-road training/coaching, mobile EPOD training and driver assessments in line with company requirements, to ensure that all professional drivers employed by the organization meet performance standards and requirements.

Key Accountabilities:

Assist with the preparation and scheduling of training interventions.

Manage driver training programs (in-cab and on-road training) for new and existing professional drivers.

Conduct relevant assessments on professional drivers which include in-cab assessment, benchmark assessments against company requirements/policies (local and long-distance transport).

Develop and prepare contract specific appendices (including Safe working Procedures and Planned job Observations).

Report on all training interventions and submit documentation (incl. attendance registers, and driver assessment documentation) on a weekly basis.

Ensure that vehicle is utilized optimally and to address fuel consumption queries, driving techniques and other related queries.

The driver trainer is responsible for minimizing risky driver behaviour.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Matric or Equivalent

Minimum of 5 years previous truck driving experience (New Generation Vehicles)

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in training and coaching long-distance drivers.

In-depth knowledge of the operating and legislation requirements of the transport and logistics industry.

Excellent communication skills in English (speaking, reading and writing).

Communication skills in Isi Xhosa and Afrikaans advantageous.

Knowledge of TETA accredited training requirements would be an advantage.

Code EC (14) driver’s licence with no endorsements.

Valid PDP licence.

Must be willing to travel with other drivers for a minimum duration of 2 weeks in order to conduct on the job coaching.

Must have working knowledge/experience of Tautliner and Refrigerated Trucks.

Must have working knowledge/experience of Scania, Volvo and Mercedes-Benz manufactured vehicles.

Must be proficient in working on a mobile device (EPOD).

Experience:

Minimum of 5 years previous truck driving experience (New Generation Vehicles)

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in training and coaching long-distance drivers.

Specific industry experience beneficial.

Personal Qualities:

Excellent communication skills.

Able to work well with a team and under pressure.

Must be diligent and time competent in order to meet deadlines.

Must be honest, reliable and trustworthy.
