About the position:
We are urgently looking for a dedicated Driver/Groundman to ensure the safe and punctual transport of students to and from Christel House, directly supporting their educational journey. Additionally, the incumbent would be assisting with the maintenance function, keeping our grounds and practice fields in excellent condition through tasks like lawn care, facility cleaning, and painting.
Reporting to the Facilities &Transport Manager the incumbent would be required to assist with the following:
Responsibilities:
Safe Transport: Ensure safe transportation of students and staff along designated routes, adhering to schedules and maintaining discipline and safety during travel.
Vehicle Upkeep: Keep the vehicle clean, conduct basic maintenance checks, and maintain accurate trip, vehicle inspection, and fuel records.
Safety & Compliance: Follow all traffic laws and school transport policies and adhere to safety guidelines during groundskeeping. Stay updated on innovative maintenance strategies to improve efficiency and standards.
Grounds Maintenance: Perform daily maintenance tasks promptly and accurately as per the schedule. Operate basic hand and electrical tools safely and perform minor repairs as needed.
Requirements:
Licenses: A valid Code 10 Driver’s License with a Professional Driving Permit (PDP) is essential.
Education & Experience: A Matric Certificate is required, along with 3 years of driving experience (preferably transporting students or groups) and a minimum of 3 years of experience in maintenance or gardening
Technical Skills: Advance Driver certificate is advantageous. Familiarity with school transportation protocols and safety regulations is advantageous. Proficient in operating hand tools, electric tools, and performing basic vehicle maintenance checks (e.g., checking oil, water levels, tire pressure
Attention to Detail & Reliability: Demonstrated ability to conduct basic audits, tool inspections, and maintain stock levels. Must be detail-oriented, hardworking, and possess the physical stamina required for groundskeeping.
Interpersonal & Soft Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate respectfully with students, staff, and parents. Must be adaptable, able to work outdoors in various weather conditions, and respond calmly to emergencies.
Additional Qualifications: A clear criminal record is mandatory. Contactable references are required. School environment and a First Aid certificate will be advantageous.
