Applications are welcomed from suitably qualified candidates for the above post based at the Medical Microbiology Department of Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (ARI). This post is suitable for enthusiastic individuals who would like to gain more experience in the diagnosis and management of infection. The post would be ideal for those considering a career as an Infection Specialist, as well as offering experience which will be applicable to primary care and a variety of medical and surgical specialties in the future. This post is available for 6 months from start date.

The successful candidate will join a supportive team of Microbiologists, Virologists and Biomedical Scientists working in a large diagnostic Microbiology and Virology Laboratory in Scotland. ARI Microbiology and Virology offers diagnostic, clinical advisory and infection control services across NHS Grampian.

Both Virology and Microbiology laboratories contain state of art facilities, with emphasis on developing rapid diagnostic techniques to optimise patient management and facilitate early discharge.

This is a new post offering experience in this exciting and developing field.

This post does not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean and will not be recognised for training. However, successful candidates may attend regional and national infection training sessions and there will be opportunity for both laboratory and clinical research projects. Additionally, ARI is a University Teaching Hospital linked to the University of Aberdeen and there is opportunity to contribute to undergraduate medical school teaching.
