An exciting opportunity exists for an accomplished finance executive to join a diversified industrial group as Divisional Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Reporting to the Board of Directors and partnering closely with the Divisional CEO, the successful candidate will provide strategic and commercial leadership across a portfolio of businesses operating within the manufacturing, transport, mining, and industrial sectors.

This role extends beyond traditional financial management, offering the opportunity to influence business strategy, drive growth initiatives, oversee capital allocation, and support key investment decisions.

The CFO will play a critical role in ensuring financial sustainability, operational excellence, strong governance, and long-term shareholder value across the division.

The ideal candidate will be a commercially minded leader with a proven track record in complex, multi-entity environments and a passion for driving business performance and strategic growth.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Financial Leadership

  • Partner with the CEO and Board to develop and execute the division’s strategic objectives.
  • Provide commercial and financial insights to support informed decision-making.
  • Drive growth strategies, business expansion opportunities, restructuring initiatives, and investment planning.
  • Contribute to the long-term sustainability and profitability of the division.

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Lead the group-wide budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
  • Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting across all entities.
  • Oversee the preparation and presentation of:
  • Monthly Management Reports
  • Annual Audited Financial Statements
  • Present financial performance and strategic recommendations to the Board and shareholders.
  • Establish and maintain strong financial controls and reporting frameworks.

Governance, Compliance & Risk Management

Ensure compliance with all relevant South African statutory and regulatory requirements, including:

  • South African Revenue Service (SARS)
  • Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC)
  • Companies Act and applicable Tax Legislation
  • Promote sound corporate governance practices across the group.
  • Oversee internal audit functions, risk management frameworks, and compliance processes.
  • Identify and mitigate financial, operational, and strategic risks.

Treasury & Capital Management

  • Manage cash flow, liquidity, and working capital requirements across the group.
  • Optimise the capital structure, including debt and equity management.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with banking and financial institutions.
  • Lead funding initiatives, refinancing activities, and capital raising projects.

Tax Strategy & Financial Controls

  • Oversee tax planning, compliance, and optimisation strategies.
  • Ensure effective financial controls and robust risk management practices.
  • Drive continuous improvement in financial processes and systems.

Mergers, Acquisitions & Investments

  • Lead acquisition strategies, due diligence processes, and transaction execution.
  • Assess investment opportunities, capital expenditure projects, and strategic partnerships.
  • Support post-acquisition integration and value realisation initiatives.
  • Evaluate business cases and investment returns to support strategic growth.

ESG, Transformation & Sustainability

  • Support and drive Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) initiatives.
  • Lead Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) reporting and sustainability programmes.
  • Ensure alignment with transformation objectives and responsible business practices.
  • Promote sustainable value creation across the division.

Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead and mentor finance teams across multiple entities.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, financial discipline, and high performance.
  • Build succession plans and support leadership development within the finance function.
  • Strengthen collaboration between finance and operational teams to improve business performance.

Qualifications & Experience

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline.
  • CA(SA) qualification or SAIPA registration.
  • Minimum 10 years’ progressive finance experience.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior executive leadership role (CFO, Finance Director, or equivalent).

Preferred Experience

  • Experience managing complex group or multi-entity structures.
  • Exposure to large privately owned organisations or JSE-listed environments.
  • Experience within manufacturing, industrial, mining, logistics, transport, or related sectors.
  • Exposure to African markets and/or international business operations would be advantageous.
  • Proven track record in strategic finance, capital management, and business transformation.
