We are looking for an experienced Customs Broker who is confident working across imports and exports, understands Customs legislation and can effectively manage Customs and OGA-related matters in a fast-paced freight environment.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
- Matric / Grade 12
- A Customs-related qualification will be an advantage
- Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in a Customs environment
- Previous experience in a clearing and forwarding environment
- Proficiency in ShipShape is advantageous
- Experience in framing Bills of Entry (BOEs)
- Experience with Customs refunds
- Good understanding of Incoterms® 2020
- Sound knowledge of Customs legislation, procedures and compliance requirements
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines
- Ability to perform effectively in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Processing a minimum of 15 Customs declarations per day across all modes of transport for both imports and exports.
- Ensuring all Customs declarations are processed in accordance with applicable Customs legislation.
- Ensuring compliance with the Customs Act and applicable extended schedules.
- Applying the correct Customs valuation methods in accordance with legislative requirements.
- Accurately framing and processing Bills of Entry (BOEs).
- Processing Customs refunds accurately and timeously.
- Reviewing declarations and supporting documentation to identify discrepancies, errors or potential compliance risks.
- Managing and resolving Customs and Other Government Agency (OGA) detentions.
- Liaising with Customs, OGAs, clients and relevant internal stakeholders to facilitate the efficient release of cargo.
- Ensuring that all required Customs documentation is accurate, complete and properly maintained.
- Keeping abreast of changes to Customs legislation, procedures and requirements.
- Providing professional and timeous support to internal and external stakeholders on Customs-related matters.
- Ensuring that all work is completed accurately and within the required operational deadlines.
- Performing any other reasonable duties associated with the Customs Broker role
