Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Custodian/Maintenance Worker to join our team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organized environment across our facilities. Your proactive approach to cleaning, sanitation, and minor maintenance tasks will ensure our spaces are welcoming and compliant with safety standards. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals who thrive in dynamic settings and take pride in creating a positive environment for staff and visitors alike. This will be a multi-sight position between the main facility in Sparta, L&L tire shop and S&S Machine shop in Steeleville Il. Must have a valid drivers license.
Responsibilities
- Perform thorough cleaning of all areas, including floors, restrooms, offices, and common spaces using appropriate cleaning agents and equipment
- Operate and maintain cleaning tools such as floor buffers, vacuums, mops, and other janitorial equipment to ensure optimal performance
- Handle chemical agents safely by following proper procedures for storage, usage, and disposal to maintain a healthy environment
- Conduct routine inspections of facilities to identify maintenance needs or safety hazards and address them promptly
- Assist with light maintenance tasks such as painting, minor repairs, and equipment troubleshooting to support facility operations
- Follow safety protocols diligently during all cleaning and maintenance activities to prevent accidents or injuries
- Support sanitation efforts by ensuring waste is properly disposed of and high-touch surfaces are disinfected regularly
- Able to work outside occasionally mowing, trimming and general yard and parking lot maintenance and clean up.
Requirements
- Proven experience in custodial or janitorial work within commercial or industrial settings
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques, sanitation standards, and chemical handling safety procedures
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment including floor buffers and other custodial tools effectively
- Physical capability to perform heavy lifting and manual handling tasks while adhering to safe lifting practices
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills to maintain cleanliness standards consistently
- Good communication skills with a customer service-oriented attitude when interacting with staff or visitors
- Prior experience in facilities maintenance or industrial cleaning is preferred but not mandatory
