Cosmetic R&D Lab Assistant
Our FMCG company operating in the personal care area, is looking to fill a position in our R&D lab. Our company produces facial beauty, wipes and body personal care products for our brand and for private label clients. We are looking for a candidate to join our R&D team who has a qualification in Cosmetic Science. Our premises is located in Paarden Eiland, Cape Town.
Key Responsibilities:
Testing Procedures: Performing various tests on cosmetic products to ensure they meet quality standards, such as viscosity, pH, stability, and microbial contamination tests.
Stability Studies: Conducting stability testing to assess how products hold up under different conditions (temperature, light exposure, etc.) over time.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintaining accurate records of all tests conducted, results obtained, and any deviations from expected standards. Reporting findings to relevant stakeholders.
Compliance and Regulation: Ensuring that all testing procedures adhere to regulatory requirements and industry standards (e.g., FDA, EU regulations).
Troubleshooting: Identifying and addressing issues that arise during testing, such as inconsistencies or failures in product quality.
Collaboration: Working closely with other departments like R&D, manufacturing, and quality assurance to resolve issues and improve product quality.
Equipment Maintenance: Calibrating and maintaining laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
Research and Development Support: Providing support to R&D teams by testing new formulations and prototypes for stability and quality.
Continuous Improvement: Suggesting improvements to testing procedures, methods, and equipment to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Perform routine tests to ensure products meet established standards.
Analyse samples, compile data, and interpret results to ensure quality compliance.
Calculate the ideal ratio of ingredients according to job tickets and solve equations to determine required raw material percentages for bulk adjustments.
Submit samples for microbiological testing.
Inspect finished products for specified colours, textures, test parameters, dimensions, fill volume, and print quality of packaging.
Ensure the safety and durability of products through thorough inspection.
Adhere to production specifications and supplier requirements.
Calibrate equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results.
Implement corrective actions for non-conformance issues.
Report inconsistencies, malfunctions, or variations from prototype or standard samples.
Provide written explanations of identified flaws and conduct procedural evaluations.
Recommend new or revised methods to enhance production efficiency.
Review quality assurance instructions, production specifications and production schedules to determine inspection and testing methods, sequence of operations, and work assignments.
Assist with preparing documentation for new product registrations for export.
Prepare product batch Certificates of Analysis (C.O.A.) for export orders.
Demonstrate loyalty, diligence, and confidentiality in all responsibilities.
Requirements:
BSc degree ideally with microbiology modules.
Advanced Diploma in Cosmetic Formulation Science or COSCHEM diploma.
Interest in the cosmetic industry.
Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
A positive attitude, with good teamwork skills and work ethic for working in a production environment.
