Purpose of the job:
The Corporate Butchery Key Account Manager (KAM) – Retail exists to grow Exim’s footprint within the butchery departments of South Africa’s major retail groups (e.g., Pick n Pay, SPAR, Boxer), with a specific focus on supplying private label spice blends, casings, packaging, and machinery. This role ensures Exim’s products are developed, positioned, and delivered to meet the operational, commercial, and quality requirements of each retail butchery format. Working closely with cross-functional teams and buyers, the KAM plays a critical role in maintaining commercial momentum, ensuring execution excellence, and deepening Exim’s role as a trusted behind-the-scenes partner powering the retailers’ own brands.
Key Responsibilities & Outcomes
Private Label Account Management:
Develop strong commercial relationships with butchery category buyers and store operations managers at retail chains.
Secure listings for private label spice blends and other butchery inputs through well-managed NPD and spec-compliance processes.
Coordinate customer-specific packaging and labelling requirements in line with each retailer’s private label guidelines.
Commercial Growth:
Drive volume and product mix improvements across casings, spices, packaging, and machinery.
Identify opportunities to displace less efficient incumbent suppliers based on Exim’s pricing, responsiveness, and technical strengths.
Track and deliver against revenue and GP targets per chain, category, and customer.
Execution & Support:
Own the customer journey from concept to shelf: pricing, specification, QA clearance, production planning, logistics coordination, and post-sale service.
Be the internal voice of the customer, ensuring Exim’s systems, processes, and people are aligned to deliver the required service standard.
Lead root-cause resolution of customer complaints or quality concerns.
Internal Collaboration:
Work closely with Procurement (to ensure competitive input costs), Operations and QA (to manage specs and audits), and Marketing (for packaging
Provide demand forecasts and customer-specific requirements to internal teams in advance.
Champion retail butchery insights back into Exim to inform strategy and product pipeline.
Strategic Alignment:
Advance Exim’s FY26 priorities: building spice and machinery volume in retail, increasing wallet share per customer, and supporting CX as a differentiator.
Contribute to a repeatable, scalable model for servicing private label retail butchery accounts across SA.
Required Experience & Qualifications
Private Label Expertise: Clear understanding of how private label supply works in the retail space – including spec development, margin structures, branding sensitivities, and technical compliance.
Butchery Knowledge: Familiarity with retail butchery operations, from workflow to shrink control to merchandising needs.
Project Management: Ability to coordinate complex customer requirements from sample development through to scale-up and recurring supply.
Strategic Selling: Capable of influencing category buyers and butchery operations managers by demonstrating cost-effectiveness, reliability, and value-add.
Cross-Functional Agility: Comfortable navigating internal teams across sales, procurement, production, compliance, and logistics to solve customer challenges.
Professionalism & Trust: Operates with high integrity and responsiveness, establishing Exim as a preferred and low-maintenance private label partner.
Data Fluency: Uses order data, pricing, and margin insights to guide account planning and commercial discussions.
