Job Title: Control & Instrumentation (C&I) Specialist
Department: Engineering / Maintenance
Reports to: Engineering Manager / Maintenance Manager
Qualification: Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering
Job Purpose:
To ensure the reliable operation, performance, and maintenance of all control systems and instrumentation equipment to optimize plant performance, minimize downtime, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:1. Instrumentation and Control Systems
Design, install, commission, and maintain control and instrumentation systems.
Calibrate and troubleshoot field instruments such as pressure, flow, temperature, and level transmitters.
Maintain and program PLCs, DCS, and SCADA systems.
Ensure control systems are performing reliably and efficiently.
2. Project Execution
Participate in engineering projects involving automation, process control, and instrumentation upgrades.
Prepare technical specifications and support procurement for control systems and components.
Coordinate with vendors and contractors during installation and commissioning phases.
3. Maintenance & Reliability
Conduct routine inspections, preventive and corrective maintenance of instruments and control systems.
Analyze system failures and recommend modifications or upgrades.
Maintain documentation such as loop diagrams, P&IDs, and wiring schematics.
4. Compliance & Safety
Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety, and environmental standards.
Implement and maintain standards related to control systems (e.g., IEC, ISO, SANS).
Maintain compliance with industry best practices and statutory requirements.
5. Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities for automation and process control enhancements.
Collaborate with process engineers and operations to improve process performance.
Provide technical training to operations and maintenance staff on control systems and instrumentation.
Key Skills and Competencies:
Strong knowledge of electrical and electronic systems
Proficient in PLC/DCS/SCADA systems (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider)
Understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Profibus, Modbus, Ethernet/IP)
Ability to interpret technical drawings and control logic
Problem-solving and analytical skills
Strong communication and teamwork abilities
Experience:
Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in instrumentation and control engineering, preferably in a heavy industrial or process plant environment.
