Full Job Description
We are seeking a qualified and professionally registered Construction Health and Safety Manager (CHSM) to oversee and implement comprehensive health and safety practices across the Huguenot Tunnel project site. This position ensures that all site activities comply with national legislation, SANRAL safety standards, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act, particularly within the high-risk environment of tunnel works and infrastructure maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and monitor the project-specific Health and Safety Plan (HSP) in accordance with the Construction Regulations (2014) and SANRAL standards.
Conduct regular risk assessments, safety inspections, and audits on all construction and operational activities within the tunnel.
Oversee the identification of hazards and implementation of appropriate mitigation measures.
Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), SANRAL’s SHE requirements, and applicable industry standards.
Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, and prepare detailed reports and recommendations for corrective actions.
Lead daily toolbox talks, safety inductions, and ongoing SHE training programs for staff and contractors.
Liaise with contractors, project managers, and regulatory bodies to ensure all health and safety protocols are maintained.
Maintain accurate documentation, including incident logs, audit reports, and SHE files.
Minimum Requirements: Education & Experience:
National Diploma or higher in Health & Safety, Construction Management, Environmental Science, or a related field.
Minimum 8–10 years of relevant experience in construction health and safety management, with at least 3 years in infrastructure or tunnel-related projects.
Professional Registration:
Must be actively registered as a:
Construction Health and Safety Manager (CHSM) with the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP)
(Registration must be current and valid at time of application.)
Key Skills and Competencies:
In-depth knowledge of OHSA and Construction Regulations 2014
Strong leadership and communication skills for managing multi-disciplinary teams
Ability to work under pressure in complex, high-risk environments (e.g., tunnel systems)
Strong report-writing, incident investigation, and compliance tracking abilities
Proficiency in MS Office and SHEQ software tools

Pay: R65Â 000,00 – R85Â 000,00 per month
