The Role

Compliance Junior Manager is responsible for leading and developing a team of Compliance Professionals while ensuring the effective identification, management and reduction of compliance, legal, operational and governance risks across the business. This role extends beyond traditional compliance oversight and requires active partnership with operational leaders to ensure risks are effectively mitigated through sustainable corrective actions, improved controls and enhanced business processes

The role is accountable for the quality, consistency and effectiveness of the Compliance Programme, the accuracy of risk assessments, the implementation of corrective actions and the ongoing monitoring of residual risk. Success is measured not only by the identification of risks but by demonstrable improvements in business controls, compliance maturity and risk reduction outcomes.

Main Responsibilities of a Compliance Junior Manager

  • Lead and Supervise: Lead, mentor and develop a team of Compliance Professionals, ensuring consistency, quality and completeness of compliance reviews, monitoring activities, risk assessments and corrective action management.
  • Annual Compliance Plan Oversight: Ensure all monitoring and review activities within the Annual Compliance Plan are appropriately allocated, completed on time and meet required quality standards.
  • Risk Identification, Reduction & Continuous Improvement: Ensure significant compliance, legal, operational and governance risks are identified, assessed, prioritised and addressed. Monitor implementation and effectiveness of corrective actions and challenge teams where risk reduction outcomes are not achieved.
  • Audit, Testing & Analysis: Review compliance testing, audit work and monitoring activities completed by Compliance Professionals.
  • Analyse findings, validate conclusions and ensure identified risks are appropriately assessed and escalated.
  • Corrective Action Governance: Monitor corrective actions across the organisation, challenge overdue actions, assess implementation effectiveness and report on residual risk exposure.
  • Collaborate and Communicate: Work closely with business leaders, operational teams and support functions to implement controls, improve processes and respond proactively to changes in the internal and external risk environment.
  • Report and Recommend: Prepare and present detailed management reporting on compliance performance, audit outcomes, risk trends, control effectiveness, corrective actions and emerging risks. Provide practical recommendations to improve governance and reduce risk exposure.
  • Risk Trend Analysis: Monitor emerging risks, control failures and residual risk movements to identify deteriorating control environments and opportunities for proactive intervention.
  • Contract Universe Oversight: Monitor contractual obligations, governance requirements, SLA review dates, renewal timelines and compliance obligations associated with key suppliers and business partners.
  • Management Information Reporting: Develop and maintain meaningful dashboards, metrics and reporting packs for management and executives to support informed decision-making.
  • Enhance and Innovate: Continuously improve compliance methodologies, monitoring approaches, business controls and operational processes to strengthen governance and improve efficiency.
  • Quality Control: Ensure compliance activities are conducted in accordance with company standards, regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Perform quality assurance reviews to maintain high standards across the Compliance Team.
  • Coaching and Training: Provide coaching, mentoring and technical support to Compliance Professionals. Contribute to the development of training material and awareness programmes to improve compliance capability across the organisation.
  • Governance, Policy & Contract Management: Review policies, procedures, contracts, marketing initiatives and business proposals to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements while supporting commercial objectives.
  • Administrative Oversight: Ensure compliance records, risk registers, corrective action trackers and governance reporting are maintained accurately and timeously.

Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • A degree in [BCom/LLB] or a related field (LLB is advantageous).

Technical Skills

  • Proficient Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, reporting, data analysis and dashboard creation.
  • Experience interpreting and analysing large datasets to identify trends, control weaknesses and emerging risks.Power BI reporting and dashboard development skills would be advantageous.
  • Excellent writing, reporting and communication skills.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2–4 years relevant work experience in compliance, risk management, governance, audit, legal, financial services or regulatory environments.
  • Experience leading projects, coordinating stakeholders or supervising team members will be advantageous.
  • Previous experience within an Internal Audit, External Audit or Assurance function would be advantageous.
  • Experience performing control testing, root cause analysis, corrective action monitoring and management reporting would be advantageous.
