We’re looking for a Community Health Worker who is passionate about people, trusted in their community, and driven to improve health outcomes through meaningful engagement. If you enjoy working directly with people, supporting families, and being part of something bigger—this role is for you.
This role is offered under the University of Cape Town Lung Institute’s own employment terms and conditions, which are separate from UCT conditions of service.
As the successful candidate, you won’t just be supporting research, you’ll be helping to improve the lives of people living in your community and acting as a trusted link between this community and its healthcare teams.
⭐ What you bring:
- Experience working in a clinic or healthcare environment
- Good understanding of the local community (Masiphumelele)
- Knowledge of medical terminology (advantageous)
- Fluency in English and another South African language
Be part of research that improves health outcomes, supports vaccine studies, and connects people in your community to meaningful healthcare support.
What you’ll own:
- Recruiting and supporting study participants (adults and children) within the community
- Conducting home visits and follow-ups to ensure continued participation
- Educating participants about studies, health tracking, and self-monitoring
- Supporting participants with asthma diaries and symptom tracking
- Collecting and capturing accurate data and questionnaires
- Maintaining participant records and reporting progress
- Assisting with transport of participants, documents, and specimens
- Setting up and managing community-based monitoring equipment
- Working closely with the Research Nurse and broader team

- Based in Masiphumelele, with work across multiple sites
