Position: Classroom Facilitator for 9 year old boy short-term contract – 4 to 6 months)
Introduction:
We are seeking a, compassionate classroom facilitator to support an energetic and sociable 9-year-old boy who loves being outdoors and enjoys story time. The facilitator would provide support to the child for the full duration of the academic school day and should ideally be passionate about supporting children with unique support needs and find genuine job satisfaction in making a difference in their lives.
A strong enthusiasm for tutoring and encouraging confidence and independence in all subjects are essential. The facilitator should be proactive, able to take initiative, and be skilled at problem-solving, with a talent for unpacking and explaining instructions, chunking tasks, and empowering independence.
Main Purpose of the Job:
To provide support to a learner with unique needs over the short term, guiding him academically and emotionally throughout the school day. A central focus is on encouraging and establishing independence—helping him build confidence, autonomy, and practical skills that foster growth both inside and outside the classroom. Collaboration and communication with his parents, teachers, and the wider multidisciplinary team are essential.

Key Responsibilities:
• Attend school with him to provide scaffolding and support across all subjects.
• Act as a communication bridge between teachers, parents, and the multidisciplinary team to align on goals and therapy recommendations.
• Assist with breaking down tasks, chunking information, and implementing movement/sensory breaks when needed.
• Encourage independence and confidence in daily classroom routines and academic subjects.
• Provide academic support, using flexible, child-led approaches and visual aids.
• Scaffold executive functioning skills: help with daily classroom routines and transitioning between activities.
• Use low-arousal techniques to minimise anxiety: recognise early signs of overwhelm and implement calming strategies (quiet breaks, sensory toys).
• Build trusting, supportive relationships with the child: practise active listening, validate emotions, and model positive self-regulation.
• Observe and respond to sensory needs: adjust lighting, noise levels, and activity pace to create a comfortable environment.
• Communicate consistently with parents and the multidisciplinary team regarding progress, challenges, and any emerging concerns.
Requirements
Job-Related Experience & Knowledge:
• Previous experience supporting Neurodiverse children (ASD, Aspergers, ADHD children) – Essential
• Background in teaching, tutoring, or special education – Desirable
• Previous experience in a schooling environment/facilitating role – Desirable.
• Familiarity with sensory-friendly strategies and low-arousal, child-led approaches – Essential
• Knowledge of executive functioning supports (visual schedules, timers, social stories) – Essential
• Relevant certifications or qualifications in education, special education, psychology, occupational therapy, or related fields – Desirable
Required Skills:
• Strong executive functioning and tutoring skills in all primary school subjects, including– Essential.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with him and parents – Essential.
• Organisational skills, i.e., ability to implement structure, strong time management – Essential.
• Social, play and life skills to encourage independence – Essential.
• Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to unpack and explain instructions clearly – Essential
Working Hours:
• Monday to Thursday: 08:00 – 14:30;
Fridays: 08:00 – 13:00
Benefits
Salary & Reimbursement:
• R120-R170 per hour, to be invoiced
