As part of its commitment to developing future engineering professionals, our client is seeking to appoint two Civil Engineering Graduates to join its Graduate Development Programme. This 12-month programme is designed to provide practical workplace experience, structured mentorship and exposure to all aspects of engineering project delivery within a dynamic construction environment.
Successful candidates will work alongside experienced Engineers and Project Managers while gaining valuable practical experience on both maintenance and capital projects.
Purpose of the Role:
The Civil Engineering Graduate will provide technical, administrative and operational support to Project Managers and Site Management teams in the successful planning, coordination and execution of engineering and construction projects.
The successful candidates will gain practical experience in site supervision, project administration, work planning, document control, quality assurance, health and safety compliance and project coordination. The role will also serve as a key communication link between site-based employees, Project Management and the Human Resources department by assisting with workforce administration, communication and operational coordination.
In addition, graduates will receive practical exposure to project planning and scheduling, Bills of Materials (BOMs), material control, wastage management, labour productivity, cost awareness and the successful execution of both maintenance and capital projects within approved quality, budget and time requirements.
This programme is designed to develop well-rounded engineering professionals by providing exposure to both the technical and operational aspects of engineering project delivery.
Key Deliverables:
Project and Site Administration
- Provide administrative support to Project Managers and Site Management teams.
- Coordinate daily project administration activities.
- Maintain project documentation, registers and filing systems.
- Prepare project reports, progress reports and meeting minutes.
- Monitor project documentation for completeness and accuracy.
- Assist with project planning, scheduling and tracking of deliverables.
- Coordinate document control and distribution.
- Maintain project records in accordance with company procedures.
- Assist with procurement administration and material tracking.
- Support project close-out and handover documentation.
Site Operations Coordination
- Assist with the daily coordination of construction and maintenance activities.
- Support Project Managers in monitoring project progress.
- Coordinate work allocation and distribution in accordance with operational requirements.
- Assist in ensuring labour resources are effectively deployed across project activities.
- Monitor completion of assigned work and escalate delays where necessary.
- Coordinate communication between site personnel and management.
- Assist with planning labour, equipment and operational requirements.
- Participate in daily planning and progress meetings.
- Support the successful execution of projects within approved timelines.
Employee and HR Coordination
- Act as a communication link between site employees, management and the Human Resources department.
- Assist with employee onboarding documentation.
- Coordinate attendance registers and timesheets.
- Assist with leave administration and employee documentation.
- Coordinate employee inductions and site orientation.
- Support employee communication regarding company procedures and operational updates.
- Maintain employee records required on site.
- Escalate employee concerns to management and HR where appropriate.
- Assist with administrative preparations relating to disciplinary hearings, investigations and employee consultations when required.
Engineering and Construction Support
- Assist Project Managers and Engineers with the planning and execution of engineering projects.
- Conduct routine site inspections.
- Monitor construction activities against engineering drawings and specifications.
- Assist in supervising contractors and subcontractors.
- Verify completed work and quantities.
- Assist in the preparation and verification of Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Monitor material usage and report on shortages and wastage.
- Assist with the reconciliation of project materials against approved quantities.
- Support cost control initiatives through efficient material and resource utilisation.
- Monitor project progress against approved programmes and milestones.
- Assist in identifying potential project delays and recommend corrective actions.
- Support the successful execution of both maintenance and capital projects.
- Assist with project completion documentation and final handover activities.
Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (SHEQ)
- Promote compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and company safety procedures.
- Participate in toolbox talks and safety meetings.
- Assist with site risk assessments.
- Monitor compliance with client and company SHEQ requirements.
- Report unsafe acts and unsafe conditions.
- Participate in quality inspections and audits.
- Assist with implementing corrective actions.
- Promote a culture of safety, quality and continuous improvement.
Professional Development
- Participate in structured mentoring by experienced Engineers and Project Managers.
- Develop practical engineering and project management competencies.
- Gain exposure to contract administration and construction management.
- Develop leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must possess one of the following qualifications:
- Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Civil Engineering
- Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Civil Engineering
- Bachelor of Engineering Technology (BEngTech) in Civil Engineering
- Advanced Diploma in Civil Engineering
- Applicants must have successfully completed their qualification.
Minimum Experience:
- No previous work experience is required.
- Internship, vacation work or experiential learning within an engineering or construction environment will be advantageous.
- Exposure to construction, infrastructure or maintenance projects will be advantageous.
- A valid South African driver’s licence will be advantageous.
