SUMMARY:
Lead complex, high-impact civil infrastructure projects across South Africa.
An established multidisciplinary engineering environment is seeking a highly experienced Senior Civil Engineer to join its team based in Durban or Johannesburg. This role is suited to a seasoned design-led professional who thrives on technical ownership, project leadership, and delivering infrastructure projects from concept through to full ECSA stages.
While the role is office-based in Durban or Johannesburg, you must be willing and able to travel to project sites across South Africa as required. All business-related travel and accommodation will be covered by the company.
POSITION INFO:
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, planning, and management of civil engineering projects, including roads, stormwater, earthworks, water reticulation, and sewer infrastructure
- Take full technical ownership of projects, ensuring innovative, cost-effective, and compliant design solutions
- Manage project budgets, timelines, resources, and risk
- Prepare and review technical reports, proposals, tender documentation, and contractual deliverables
- Liaise with clients, contractors, local authorities, and stakeholders to ensure successful project execution
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior and intermediate engineers and technologists
- Conduct site inspections and monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with design specifications and quality standards
- Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards across all project phases
Minimum Requirements (Non‑Negotiable)
- Qualification: BSc Eng, BEng, or BTech in Civil Engineering
- Experience: Minimum 10 years’ post‑graduate civil engineering experience
- Professional Registration:
- Registered with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr Tech Eng)
- Minimum 5 years’ post‑professional registration experience
- Technical Capability: Proficient in civil engineering design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Prokon, or similar
- Mobility: Willingness to travel nationally as project requirements dictate (company-covered)
- Licence: Valid South African driver’s licence
