Overview

Certified Backflow Tester Jobs in Raleigh, NC at Carolina Chlorination LLC

Carolina Chlorination is a growing, veteran-owned North Carolina water-services company, and we’re hiring a certified backflow tester, part-time – full-time. We’re taking real industry experience and building, and for the right person, there’s real room to grow as we expand across the coast and statewide.

Here’s something we want you to know: we don’t automate our application reviews. A real person reads every single one. So if you’re missing something on our preferred list, don’t rule yourself out. Apply anyway. We review the whole candidate, not the checkboxes.

A current Backflow Tester Certification is required for consideration.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Test, repair, and replace backflow assemblies across many sites in a typical day
  • Report test results at the time of testing, while still on site
  • Train on and perform waterline chlorination
  • Work independently at customer sites and manage your own day
  • Accurately track time and materials used on each job
  • Manage your own parts inventory
  • Keep clear records of expenses and purchases
  • Follow company policies and procedures
  • Protect sensitive client information

This is active work with a flexible schedule rather than one fixed site or desk. Because you’ll work independently at customer and client sites, we’re looking for someone pleasant and professional face-to-face, respectful of customer property, self-motivated, communicative, and reliable about follow-up and the guidelines we provide. The company provides all materials, and you’ll be trusted with a company card.

After-hours backflow emergencies are voluntary, and they’re paid at an overtime rate.

THE PHYSICAL SIDE OF THE WORK

We’d rather be straight with you about what the job demands:

  • Lifting and carrying tools and equipment, generally up to about 50 pounds
  • Occasional lifting of heavier, larger parts and devices
  • Meter pits, crawl spaces, and tight or awkward positions, often wet
  • Outdoors in whatever the weather is doing that day
  • A lot of drive time, moving between multiple sites over the course of a day
  • Use of Chlorine

REQUIRED

  • A current backflow tester certification
  • A valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
  • A reliable vehicle of your own
  • Ability to pass a background check and a drug screening. Some additional sites, like military bases, have their own secondary background checks when needed.

PREFERRED

When we say preferred, we mean it – not quietly required. If you don’t have these, please apply anyway.

  • A plumbing background
  • Chlorination experience
  • Install experience
  • Broader plumbing skills
  • A truck or SUV rather than a smaller car, given the gear and the driving
  • A test gauge of your own, with current calibration. (Ongoing calibration costs will be covered by the company.)

Applicants who hold a North Carolina Class One plumbing contractor license are eligible for a different compensation structure and an expanded position beyond what’s described in this posting, as detailed in our Class One job listing, or discussed separately.

PAY AND WHAT WE COVER

  • $24.50 to $38.00 per hour, based on qualifications and experience. Candidates with more qualifications and experience are more likely to reach the upper end of that range.
  • Reimbursement for the business use of your own vehicle, pending a company vehicle as we grow
  • Covered oil changes and tire rotations, plus a proportional contribution toward tire replacement, also pending a company vehicle
  • All materials provided, plus a company card
  • For the right candidate, a gauge and tools can be provided
  • Federal holidays off
  • An optional 30 to 60 minute unpaid lunch, taken when it fits your day
  • As the company grows, health care and paid time off will be available

HOW TO APPLY

When you apply, provide your resume. Don’t worry about length or keyword optimization for applicant scanners – a real person is reading it. Instead of a formal cover letter, just include a few sentences or more about your experience and why you’d be a good fit. Apply through this posting.
