Centre Manager Jobs in Eastern Cape, South Africa at Macdonald & Company
Title: Centre Manager
Company: Macdonald & Company
Location: Eastern Cape, South Africa
Ready to take charge on an exciting new retail development in South Africa's Eastern Cape?
A forward-thinking property group that specialises in retail and mixed-use developments in under-served and rural markets, is delivering assets that play a meaningful role in local economic growth. Their approach is hands-on and long term, with a strong emphasis on partnership, sustainability and community integration. They are now appointing a Centre Manager for a newly developed mall in a strategic rural/peri-urban area of the Eastern Cape. While the centre is approaching opening, this role will focus on being the on-the-ground leader and custodian of the asset.
The Centre Manager will be responsible for the smooth day-to-day operation of the mall, managing tenant relationships, service providers, security and maintenance, and acting as the primary interface between the owners, tenants and the surrounding community. A key part of the role is building credibility and trust with local stakeholders, including community leaders, traders and authorities, ensuring the centre operates as a respected and accepted part of the area. This role requires a steady, respected operator who can handle competing interests, resolve issues calmly, and maintain strong relationships across a diverse tenant base. The successful candidate will ensure operational standards are upheld, risks are managed, and the centre runs efficiently while remaining sensitive to the social and cultural dynamics of the area.
The ideal candidate is a proven retail property manager with strong people-management skills and deep local understanding. Living in the Eastern Cape or having strong roots in the region with a desire to return, is highly important. Fluency in isiXhosa is essential to engage effectively with tenants, staff and the broader community. This opportunity suits someone who leads from the front, earns respect through consistency and fairness, and is comfortable being the public face of the asset. For the right individual, this is a chance to take ownership of a significant community-focused development and play a central role in its long-term success.
