Job Summary
As a batch plant operator, your job duties include monitoring the mixing process to ensure that the correct combination of cement, stones, chemicals and water are used in the concrete production; addressing any issues.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Report any quality or consistency issues with concrete or mixer system to Plant Manager immediately.
- Operate the batch plant computer system.
- Must be able to mix the proper amounts of necessary materials to maintain the needed consistency of cement used during production.
- Observe computer equipment to ensure efficient operation.
- Weigh and/or measure ingredients used to make concrete to ensure conformance to requirements.
- Load materials into cement mixer.
- Dislodge and clear jammed material from mixer.
- Examine materials to ensure conformance to established standards.
- Watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure the batch plant is working properly.
- Inspect and evaluate the quality of the cement.
- Determine what is causing an operating error and deciding what to do about it.
- Clean and maintain machinery.
- Record operational and production data on specified forms.
- Assist in all aspects of production when not operating cement mixer.
Core Competencies
- Must efficiently operate computer controlled batching system that transfers product from storage bins through weigh bins and into ready-mix trucks and maintain maximum production levels.
- Responsible for reading and interpreting computer orders to control mix design and to set appropriate slump.
- Must be able to use tools such as sledge hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers, pipe wrench, and hand shovel in the operation or maintenance of plant.
- Must be able to read and write.
- Must be able to follow directions; paying close attention to detail..
Working Conditions
- Duties are performed in the plant.
- Individuals are exposed to noise, moving machinery, dust, fumes and changing temperatures.
- Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include, but not limited to: safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, hard hats and gloves.
Physical Demands
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders, reach, squat, tolerate prolonged standing, balance, bend from trunk, operate mobile equipment, push and pull objects.
- Lift objects of various dimension and weights.
- Ability to operate hand controls with both hands.
- Ability to operate foot controls with both feet.
- Ability to tolerate working both indoors and outdoors in all environmental temperatures and weather. Ability to work in cramped quarters.
- Ability to work in areas with the potential for high noise levels.
- Ability to tolerate working at heights up to 75 feet.
Pay: $35,000.00 – $45,000.00 per year

Experience:
- computer controlled batching system: 1 year (Preferred)
- Manufacturing: 1 year (Preferred)
License/Certification:
- Non-CDL Class C (Preferred)
