Responsibilities
Prepare and review various contracts, scope of work, standard operating procedures, company policies and ensure that they are in compliance with all statutory or legal requirements.
Review all legal contracts and auxiliary documents submitted in any tender process to identify and highlight all unacceptable terms and risks and proposing alternates with a view to mitigate risk.
Ensure all company licenses and permits are kept up to date.
Carry out negotiation of customer and/or supplier contracts to ensure appropriate, legally enforceable, high-quality contracts with acceptable risk.
Manage company’s marine and non-marine insurance policies and ensure risks identified in customer contracts are adequately insured.
Assist with resolution of cargo claim queries.
Manage losspreventionprogram incollaborationwith internal stakeholders.
Manage all legal matters while ensuring these are dealt with cost effectively and resolved in the best interest of the company.
Assist with debt collection.
Prepare legal notices/demands which may be required under agreements to protect company’s interests.
Management of all legal proceedings on behalf of the company with due consideration to legal costs.
Ensure that all activities in the area of responsibility are compliant with company-specific regulations and processes.
Monthly reporting to Regional Legal Counsel.
Quarterly reporting of KPI’s to Management.
Provision of training.
Assist with FAIS audits.
Assist with company secretarial functions and preparation of statutory documents.
Keep Management up to date with legal developments.
Create a highly visible and positive experience and atmosphere through the professional engagement with both internal and external (local and international level), including dealing with enquiries in a courteous and timely manner.
Scope of work involves Sub-Saharan cluster such as South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique and DB Schenker Logistics Campus MEA.
Minimum Qualifications
Appropriate tertiary qualification in LLB.
3 years’ experience in the drafting and negotiation of legal contracts.
Knowledge of company law.
Understanding of freight forwarding and logistics industry.
Legal Risk management and mitigation.
Contract management.
Understanding of insurance.
Understanding of the litigation process and requirements.
Problem-solvingabilities.
Analytical ability.
Accuracy andattention to detail.
Computer literacy – PowerPoint, Excel, Word at an advanced level.
