About the role:
Artworld is looking for a skilled carpenter/joiner to join our team making floating frames for stretched canvas artworks and prints. You’ll be responsible for producing high-quality frames from raw timber through to a finished, ready-to-hang product — precision and consistency matter, as these frames go directly to paying customers.
What you’ll be doing:
- Cutting, mitring and assembling floater frame profiles to exact size specifications (A4 up to A0, plus custom/oversized dimensions)
- Fitting frames around stretched canvases so the canvas “floats” with an even, consistent gap on all sides
- Sanding, staining, painting and finishing frames to a range of finishes — White, Black, Natural, Honey, Light Grey, Kiaat Stain, Oak Stain, and “show grain” textured finishes
- Working from multiple frame profile styles as required
- Quality-checking corners, joins and finish before frames leave the workshop
- Managing your own workflow to meet order deadlines
Skills and experience needed:
- Proven joinery/carpentry experience, ideally in picture framing, furniture making, or shopfitting
- Strong mitre-cutting and precision-joinery skills — corners must be perfectly square and tight
- Comfortable using mitre saws, routers, nail/pin guns, and clamping equipment
- Experience with wood finishing — staining, painting, varnishing, colour-matching
- Good eye for detail and consistency, especially on visible joints and finish quality
- Own transport an advantage
- Framing or canvas-stretching experience is a strong plus, but we’re open to training the right candidate with solid joinery fundamentals
Pay: R8 000,00 – R12 000,00 per month
