Role Description The Carpenter role at SSG FACILITIES is a full-time, on-site position based in Pretoria. The carpenter will perform a variety of carpentry tasks, including framing, installing doors and windows, building and repairing structures, and completing finish carpentry such as trim, cabinetry, and fittings. Daily work involves reading and interpreting drawings or specifications, measuring and cutting materials, assembling and installing components, and ensuring all work meets company quality and safety standards. The role also includes maintaining tools and equipment, collaborating with other trades on-site, identifying material requirements, and communicating progress or issues to supervisors. The carpenter will be expected to follow all health and safety procedures, keep work areas organized, and interact respectfully and professionally with clients and team members.

Qualifications

  • Trade Certificate
  • Strong carpentry skills, with experience in structural work, repairs, and general building tasks.
  • Proficiency in framing, including wall, floor, and roof framing for new installations and renovations.
  • Skillful use of hand tools such as hammers, chisels, levels, saws, and measuring tools.
  • Competence with power tools, including drills, circular saws, nail guns, sanders, and related equipment.
  • Experience in finish carpentry, including trim work, doors, windows, cabinetry, and detailed interior finishes.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, plans, and measurements accurately.
  • Understanding of construction safety practices and commitment to a safe work environment.
  • Prior experience as a carpenter or in a similar building trade role; relevant trade certification or apprenticeship is an advantage.
  • Physical ability to perform manual tasks, stand for extended periods, and lift materials as required.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
