Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Candidate Attorney role based in the Durban Metropolitan Area. The Candidate Attorney will support attorneys with legal research, drafting pleadings, contracts, opinions, and correspondence across law, tax, compliance, and advisory matters. Daily responsibilities include attending consultations, preparing files, managing documentation, and assisting with litigation and dispute resolution processes. The role involves reviewing legislation and case law, helping to develop legal strategies, and providing support in negotiations and settlement discussions. The Candidate Attorney will also assist with compliance reviews, administrative tasks related to court procedures, and maintaining accurate, confidential client records.
Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in Law, with the ability to interpret legislation and case law and apply it to practical matters.
  • Knowledge of Labor and Employment Law, including workplace disputes, contracts, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to provide clear, structured Legal Advice under supervision, focusing on risk assessment and client needs.
  • Proficient in legal Research, including use of online databases and authorities to support opinions and pleadings.
  • Developed Negotiation skills, with the capacity to assist in settlement discussions and client communications.
  • LLB degree from an accredited institution and eligibility for articles of clerkship.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and strong organizational abilities.
  • High ethical standards, professional integrity, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and legal research platforms; prior exposure to tax or compliance matters is an advantage.
