As a Calf Health & Care Specialist, you’ll work alongside experienced managers and veterinary professionals to support animal health, promote calf welfare, and contribute to the success of our operation. This position offers valuable hands-on experience in livestock care, animal health practices, and modern agricultural operations.

This is an active, outdoor position for individuals who take pride in hard work, attention to detail, and providing excellent care for animals.
What You’ll Do
No two days are exactly the same, but every day focuses on ensuring calves receive the care, nutrition, and medical attention they need to thrive.
Your day may begin in the early morning preparing milk, bottles, and feeding equipment before assisting with calf feeding and monitoring calves that require extra attention. Throughout the day, you’ll help evaluate animal health, assist with veterinary treatments, maintain clean and comfortable living spaces, support processing activities, and work closely with management to identify and address health concerns.
Whether you’re treating a calf, collecting health data, improving pen conditions, or supporting disease prevention efforts, your work directly contributes to animal well-being and ranch success.
Key Responsibilities
- Observe calves daily and identify signs of illness, injury, dehydration, respiratory disease, lameness, or other health concerns.
- Assist with herd health programs and veterinary treatment protocols.
- Safely identify, move, and care for calves requiring additional medical attention.
- Administer vaccines, medications, electrolytes, and other treatments according to established protocols and veterinary direction.
- Assist with calf processing activities, including animal identification, tagging, and health procedures.
- Maintain accurate treatment, processing, and health records.
- Monitor treatment progress and communicate health concerns to management.
- Assist with sample collection and necropsies as directed by veterinary staff.
- Support hospital pen operations, including feeding, treatment, monitoring, and animal movement.
- Maintain treatment areas, equipment, and supplies in a clean, organized, and biosecure manner.
- Follow animal welfare standards and ensure humane livestock handling practices.
- Support facility biosecurity practices to help prevent disease transmission.
- Assist with inventory management of veterinary supplies, pharmaceuticals, and vaccines.
- Help maintain clean, bedded, and comfortable environments for calves.
- Contribute to a safe, positive, and team-oriented work environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

No Experience? That’s Okay.
Previous livestock, dairy, feedlot, ranch, veterinary, or agricultural experience is helpful but not required.
We welcome candidates with a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and a genuine interest in animal care. Training will be provided for motivated individuals looking to build valuable agricultural and animal health skills.
Schedule Expectations
- Early morning start times are a regular and important part of this position to support daily feeding and animal care schedules.
- Weekend, holiday, and rotating schedule work may be required as animal care is a 365-day responsibility.
- Reliability and attendance are essential to ensuring consistent care for the animals entrusted to us.
Physical Requirements
This is a physically active position that requires team members to:
- Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb throughout the workday.
- Use hands and arms to handle equipment, supplies, and livestock.
- Frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Occasionally lift and move up to 100 pounds.
- Work in varying weather conditions and outdoor environments.
Work Environment
Team members work in active livestock production environments and can expect:
- Outdoor work in all seasons and weather conditions.
- Exposure to dust, livestock, odors, and airborne particles.
- Work in and around animal pens and handling facilities.
