GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
The Buyer position exists to procure raw material or commodity items, and services. This individual is responsible for determining what to procure based on a work order bill of material (BOM). They must understand all nuances associated with each specific BOM in order to communicate intelligently to our suppliers.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES
- Create purchase orders, for products and services, based on the production required dates.
- Work with multiple departments to supply component parts by delivery schedule requirements
- Participate in negotiating formal agreements with suppliers as necessary
- Collaborate with accounting to resolve invoices, errors, and purchasing orders
- Advise operations management on logistical considerations as they influence cycle time, transportation, and product costs
- Satisfy production requirements for materials based on the needs purchased report
- Replenish max/min items as assigned by the purchasing manager
- Maintain and control min/max quantity level for applicable items
- Expedite purchase orders
- Negotiate competitive prices
- Communicate with applicable suppliers and develop/maintain strong vendor relationships
- Confirm the validity of open purchase orders
- Coordinate product returns to vendors as required
- Ensure vendor on time delivery
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
- Manufacturing background preferred
- Proficient with MRP Software
- 5 years experience in steel/fabrication purchasing/procurement role
EDUCATIONAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without accommodation
