Brief description

The main purpose of this position is to provide systems-related business support to users of critical business systems within the Supply Chain Division of the Currency Management Department (CMD) of the South African Reserve Bank (SARB). This includes facilitating the definition and documentation of system requirements, maintaining the integrity of data on the systems, and coordinating and communicating decisions during major system incidents.

Detailed description

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

  • Work closely with business and the Business Solutions and Technology Department (BSTD) to define and interpret business needs and requirements and compile a business case for new and existing CMD business solutions.
  • Coordinate, guide and oversee the implementation and change management of new solutions, enhancements and upgrades to existing systems, in consultation with business, BSTD and/or other stakeholders, to ensure alignment with business needs and requirements, such as business processes, reports, upgrades, patches and fixes.
  • Guide and manage business testing and verify testing results against the defined test-case criteria.
  • Establish and maintain stakeholder relationships to ensure the efficient running of business systems, identify future business requirements and opportunities for optimisation, and propose solutions.
  • Manage the master data on CMD systems to ensure data integrity, accurate end-to-end transaction processing and the mitigation of systems-related risks.
  • Provide ad hoc training, and guide and oversee externally provided training and support on all functional system changes for internal and external users of the systems, including cash centre personnel.
  • Manage the development, maintenance, updating and implementation of training material and the learner management system (LMS) platform through internal and external stakeholders and partners.
  • Monitor and facilitate the timely resolution of all systems-related issues reported by the cash centres and other Head Office users and manage the incident management process to ensure efficient service delivery.
  • Act as the central systems coordinator with the cash industry for systems-related matters, including invoking systems-related business continuity procedures.
  • Assess the business impact of systems changes initiated by external factors, whether from within or outside the SARB.
  • Provide reports and recommendations on the system development life cycle (SDLC).
  • Establish and maintain relevant stakeholder relationships and represent the department at relevant industry forums.
  • Ensure that governance principles are in place and implemented throughout all change processes.
  • Maintain policy changes on the system.

Job requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must have:

  • at least a bachelor’s degree, such as a BCom or BSc in Information Systems, an information technology qualification or an equivalent qualification in a related field; and
  • a minimum of five to seven years’ experience in a financial business support and analysis environment.

Additional requirements include:

  • an understanding of the banking ecosystem;
  • knowledge of financial payment systems;
  • project management skills; and
  • knowledge of cash management systems.
