Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Business Development Officer role based in Rosebank, City of Johannesburg with a 3 month probation period. The Business Development Associate will identify and qualify new business opportunities, generate leads, and build a strong pipeline of prospective clients. Day-to-day tasks include conducting market research on target segments, reaching out to potential clients via calls, client liaison emails, and meetings, and delivering presentations on Mutualism’s financial solutions.

The role involves nurturing relationships with small businesses and entrepreneurs, understanding their funding needs, and collaborating with internal teams to support the application and onboarding process. The Business Development Officer will also track performance metrics, maintain accurate records in the CRM system, and contribute to continuous improvement of sales strategies and customer engagement.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree (NQF Level
    7) in Business, Finance, Marketing, or a related field from a South African accredited tertiary institution.
  • A postgraduate qualification (NQF Level 8+). Honours, PGDip, MCom, MBA, or CFA studies is advantageous. Equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
  • A strong academic record is a plus. Distinctions, Dean’s List, or solid performance in quantitative and business modules.
  • Strong presentation skills, including creating and delivering effective presentations tailored to different audiences.
  • Proven experience in lead generation and pipeline development within a sales or business development environment.
  • Ability to conduct structured market research to identify trends, target segments, and competitive insights.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain financial solutions clearly and confidently.
  • Experience in financial services, fintech, or SME lending is an advantage.
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative, target-driven environment with measurable goals.
  • Proficiency with CRM tools and basic MS Office or Google Workspace applications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, customer-centric mindset, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
