ITEED has introduced a new energy-saving solution, We-Save-Energy, to help commercial, industrial and institutional organisations reduce energy costs, improve operational efficiency and operate more sustainably. We-Save-Energy is a Pretoria-based official partner of Best.Energy UK, offering energy-saving solutions by combining smart IoT energy-monitoring technology, data analytics and engineering-supported solutions.
We-Save-Energy’s solutions give clients greater visibility into how, where and when energy is consumed. This enables organisations to identify avoidable waste, detect abnormal consumption, improve operational control and make informed energy-saving decisions.
The business entity is therefore looking for a motivated and commercially driven Business Development Officer – Energy Solutions to support the sale of Best.Energy's energy saving products through targeted prospecting, lead generation, opportunity qualification and appointment setting.
Role Description
The Business Development Officer will operate at the frontline of We-Save-Energy's commercial growth strategy. The individual will be expected to research target organisations, identify appropriate decision-makers and introduce We-Save-Energy’s energy-monitoring and management solutions through telephone calls, email, LinkedIn, networking and other approved business-development channels.
The primary responsibility of this role will be to generate a consistent pipeline of well-qualified business opportunities and secure appointments with organisations that have genuine energy-management needs.
The role will also support targeted marketing initiatives, maintain accurate customer relationship management records and ensure that qualified opportunities are properly followed up and transferred to the sales and technical teams.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop sufficient product and energy-management knowledge to communicate the commercial value of We-Save-Energy’s solutions confidently and accurately.
NB: Full product, sector and basic energy-management training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain strong client relationships to ensure customer satisfaction and repeat business.
- Research and identify prospective clients across commercial, industrial, hospitality, retail, property, education, healthcare and other energy-intensive sectors.
- Build and maintain targeted prospect lists using LinkedIn, company websites, industry directories, professional networks and approved business-intelligence platforms.
- Conduct outbound prospecting through telephone calls, personalised emails, LinkedIn outreach, referrals, networking activities and business events.
- Identify and engage relevant decision-makers, including business owners, facility managers, operations managers, finance managers, property managers and sustainability professionals.
- Introduce the products/solution and explain the commercial value of energy monitoring, energy management and operational cost reduction.
- Conduct preliminary discovery conversations to understand prospective clients’ energy challenges, operating environments and business priorities.
- Qualify leads based on organisational fit, energy-management needs, decision-making authority, level of interest and readiness to proceed.
- Secure qualified virtual or face-to-face appointments for the sales and technical teams.
- Confirm appointments, send calendar invitations and provide appropriate reminders for meetings.
- Prepare clear prospect handover notes covering identified needs, decision-makers, objections and agreed next steps.
- Maintain complete and accurate CRM records for all calls, emails, meetings, follow-ups and pipeline activities.
Qualification and Professional Requirements
- A diploma, higher certificate or degree in sales, marketing, business administration, communications, commerce or a related field.
- At least two years of relevant experience in B2B sales, business development, telesales, lead generation, inside sales or appointment setting.
- Demonstrated experience in outbound sales activities, including cold calling, email prospecting and direct engagement with new clients.
- Strong spoken and written communication skills (English and Afrikaans).
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with attention to detail in managing prospect information, follow-ups and appointments.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with technical colleagues.
- Access to Computer Devices (Laptops)
- Proficiency in ERP and CRM systems, digital prospecting tools and online communication platforms.
- Competence in Microsoft Office Applications
Key Knowledge Experiences
- Previous sales experience in energy efficiency, renewable energy, solar, electrical systems, IoT, technology, engineering or sustainability is an added advantage.
- Experience selling technical products, services, subscriptions or business solutions.
- Experience engaging general managers, operations managers, finance managers, property managers or sustainability professionals.
- Familiarity with CRM platforms.
- Experience using LinkedIn Sales Navigator, ZoomInfo, Apollo or other prospecting platforms.
- Basic understanding of electricity bills, energy consumption, energy monitoring, demand, baseload and common sources of energy waste.
- Experience supporting digital marketing campaigns, business events or referral-development activities.
