Bus Driver – San Jose to LA Express Route Jobs in Hayward, CA at AmericanStar Tours
AmericanStar Tours runs the Route 21 Express, a nonstop-style intercity service between San Jose and Los Angeles on the 101. We are hiring full-time reliable and professional bus drivers. This is a real intercity run on late-model 54-passenger motorcoaches, not charter work and not a shuttle.
What the week looks like:
- Friday through Monday. Tuesday – Thursday off, consecutive, every week.
- You take the coach one direction per day, roughly 8 to 9 hours of driving with seven scheduled stops.
- You overnight in Los Angeles in a company-paid hotel room, then take the northbound departure the next morning at 9:20 a.m. from LA Union Station.
- Full 10-hour off-duty rest between legs. No sleeper berth. No split sleep.
- Report location is our Hayward yard.
What you actually do:
- Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections and required logs
- Assist passengers with boarding, luggage, and seating
- Announce stops, connection details, and route information clearly
- Hold the schedule so Amtrak train connections at San Jose and LA Union Station stay intact
- Communicate delays to dispatch, and report mechanical issues to maintenance promptly
- Keep the coach clean and presentable
- Provide excellent customer service, ensuring passengers feel welcomed and informed.
- Address passenger inquiries and resolve issues in a professional and timely manner.
Vehicle Maintenance & Reporting
- Report mechanical issues, damages, or safety concerns to the maintenance team promptly.
- Maintain a clean and organized bus interior for passenger comfort.
- Complete required logs, paperwork, and incident reports accurately.
Qualifications
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) A or B with Passenger and Air Brake Endorsement. No restrictions.
- DOT Medical Certificate
- Clean driving record (K4) with no major violations and no more than 2 points in the last 3 years.
- Ability to pass a DOT pre-employment drug screen
- Minimum of 1 years of experience driving passenger buses or similar vehicles.
- Strong knowledge of California roadways, traffic laws, and safety regulations.
