Job Purpose
To operate appropriate equipment and to ensure that all maintenance operations are conducted within the quality, health and safety requirements of the company.
Duties And Responsibilities
Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layouts and procedures.
Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements.
Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. Cut Material with power saws, gas cutting equipment to match measurements).
Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded.
Align components using calibers, rules etc. and clamp pieces.
Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions.
Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps.
Test and inspect welded surfaces and structures to discover flaws.
Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.
Report all dangerous or unsafe behavior to supervisor or manager.
REQUIREMENTS: SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
Grade 12 or recognized equivalent qualification.
Relevant trade test certification – Boilermaker/Welder.
3-5 years’ experience in marine environment.
Experienced in using a variety of welding equipment and procedures.
Experience in using electrical or manual tools.
Be prepared to work overtime and adhere to all company safety rules and policies.
Able to be a strong team player and have the passion to learn new things.
Must be able to read and interpret technical documentation and drawings.
Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
Pay attention to detail.
Medically fit, of sober habits and no criminal record.
