Job Description
The Homestead Projects for Street Children invites applications from committed, value‑driven professionals to join its Governing Board and Specialist Sub‑Committees. This is an opportunity to contribute your expertise to a well‑established, credible organisation dedicated to transforming the lives of children and youth who have experienced neglect, abuse, and life on the streets.
We Are Seeking
- Three (3) Governing Board Members. While not a requirement, experience in social development, child protection, education, legal/governance, fundraising, communications, or health/social work will be advantageous.
- Four (4) Specialist Sub‑Committee Members, with expertise in:
- Finance: experience in financial management, accounting (CA(SA) or equivalent), audit, or NPO financial compliance is preferred.
- Human Resources / Organisational Development: experience in HR strategy, employee relations, talent, people management, or organisational development is preferred.
- Welfare & Safeguarding: background in social work, child protection, trauma‑informed practice, or welfare policy is preferred.
- Governance & Ethics: experience in governance, risk management, ethics, and compliance.

Roles and Responsibilities Governing Board Members will
- Provide independent oversight of organisational strategy and performance.
- Ensure financial integrity and accountability.
- Support governance, compliance, and risk management.
- Contribute to long‑term strategic direction and sustainability.
Board Sub‑Committee Members will
- Offer technical expertise in their respective fields.
- Support Board decision‑making through advisory input.
- Strengthen organisational systems, policies, and practices.
Time Commitment
- Board and Sub‑Committee members are appointed for a two‑year term, renewable at the discretion of the Board.
- Attend approximately 4–5 Board/Committee meetings per year (in‑person & virtual).
- Quarterly site visits to centres (mandatory for Board Members; encouraged for Sub‑Committee Members).
- Compulsory participation in Annual General Meeting in September.
- Prepare for meetings through review of documentation.
- Occasional ad‑hoc engagement depending on organisational needs.
