Purpose of Position:
The Biorepository Manager is responsible for establishing and managing the Biorepository within the national reference laboratory. This includes workflow planning, project management, and overseeing quality assurance to ensure efficient biorepository operations. The role also involves leading and mentoring a team while fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
Requirements:
HPCSA registration: Medical Technologist, Medical Technician, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or Medical Scientist (Required), Medical Technologist, Medical Technician (SMLTSA), Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Scientist (BSc Hons, MSc, PhD) qualification (Required)
Required Experience:
5 or more years of experience in a biobank laboratory setting, Ability to lead and work collaboratively in a fast-paced start-up environment, Commitment to quality, compliance, and continuous improvement, Demonstrated ability to manage and mentor teams effectively, Excellent organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in biobank processes and compliance documentation, Familiarity with biobank management software and sample tracking systems, Prior experience in workflow planning, and laboratory efficiency optimisation, Proficiency in PBMC (Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cell) isolation and handling is advantageous, Proven experience with accreditation standards, and laboratory quality management systems, Strong knowledge of biobanking best practices and regulatory requirements, Strong project management skills to drive the successful establishment and operation of the biorepository
Key Responsibilities:
Apply project management skills to drive the successful establishment and operation of the biorepository, Collaborate with the relevant stakeholders to facilitate biorepository utilisation, Develop and implement workflows for sample collection, storage, processing, and retrieval in alignment with laboratory best practices, Develop and monitor standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all biorepository activities, Ensure adherence to biosafety and biosecurity regulations in handling biological specimens, Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, SANAS accreditation requirements and other relevant laboratory accreditation standards, Ensure efficient data and sample management using biobank-specific software and tracking systems, Establish and manage the biorepository, ensuring compliance with the relevant regulations best practices, Lead workflow planning and process optimisation for improved efficiency and compliance, Liaise with external clients and facilitate professional marketing engagements, Oversee the quality management systems (QMS) and maintain documentation for accreditation purposes, Provide strong leadership and team management, fostering a productive and collaborative work environment
