Job Responsibilities
Serve alcohol responsibly, including refusing service when appropriate.
Promote the establishment and its offerings.
Be aware of the financial goals of the establishment.
Wash glassware and keep the bar area clean and organized.
Arrange displays of bar stock and glassware.
Prepare garnishes for drinks.
Serve snacks or food items to patrons seated at the bar.
Maintain inventory of liquors, wines, beers, soft drinks, creams, fruits, fruit juices, coffees, and teas.
Order supplies as needed.
Operate computerized point of sale systems if available.
Collect payments for drinks and balance cash receipts.
Use machines that automatically mix and dispense drinks.
Handle special orders and know how to prepare drinks manually if equipment fails.
Upsell to increase the average guest check and beverage-to-food ratio.
Possibly have supervisory responsibilities, including:
Planning, organizing, and controlling bar operations.
Coordinating beverage requirements with other supervisory staff.
Planning bar menus and assisting with advertising and promotions.
Taking inventory and tracking spillage and transfers.
