Navigate World Whisky will be upping the ante in our new Tasting Room & Whisky Bar in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg. Combined with our Boutique store this is space of adventure but being a small outlet we require a strong work ethic combined with strong customer and hospitality skills.
If you are this type of candidate then you will be deep diving into a drinks world like never seen before. 1,600 fine spirits including over 1,200 whiskies, wine, champagne, tasting flights, pairings, and a strong retail focus are what this high end whisky bar and drinks experience is all about.
The tasting room is an opportunity for newbies and connoisseurs alike to learn or deep dive into their favourite and yet to be discovered spirits. A space to unwind and relax, the best place in Town for a special drink.
Job Description
We are looking for hard working, enthusiastic, well-spoken individuals to join our team. You will be manning our Tasting Room and provide customers with a world-class “spirits” tasting experience.
Your duties will include, but not be limited, to the following:
- Create, assist and maintain an environment of ambiance, hospitality and comfort that leaves patrons with an experience worth returning for.
- Serve as onsite Spirit Hosts for an elevated visit, offering exceptional service to every guest.
- Supply and help discover a knowledge of spirits and ensure the quality of all beverage items, ingredients, and preparation methods are adhered to the highest standards.
- Providing prompt, courteous beverage service to guests.
- Maintaining a clean and sanitary bar area.
- Never do nothing. Bar and retail bottles take time to shine.
- Operate and maintain all equipment and utensils as required in accordance with established guidelines and safety procedures.
- Operate a cash register/POS System, ringing proper amount into the register, recording tips and transactions correctly.
- Account for all cash, charge, and complimentary sales according to established procedures; maintain integrity of all financial controls and responsibilities.
- To ensure that all payments are processed correctly; to make sure that stock is regularly replenished and accounted for.
- Maintain a clean and stocked workstation in accordance with established health and safety guidelines.
- Ensure that there is enough stock and equipment.
- Ensure all equipment is in working order & report if not.
- Monthly stocktake of beverages.
- Promote guest satisfaction. Help build a community.
- Adhere strictly to the provisions and regulations as contained in the Liquor Act (No. 59 of 2003) and other regulations as may be applicable to the sale of alcoholic beverages.
Requirements:
- Passionate about the hospitality industry (strong customer service orientation)
- Well-spoken and presented (excellent interpersonal & communication skills)
- Experience in serving alcoholic beverages
- Must be able to stand for long shifts
- Whisky/Rum knowledge and experience a plus but curiosity and interest is all you need.
- POS (Point of Sale) systems experience
- Must be able to use quiet periods to be productive in any required prep work and ensuring bottles and display shelving is spotless.
- High school diploma
- Mixology Certification considered a definite asset (but not essential)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to maintain a professional working relationship
- Ability to multitask
- Positive and friendly attitude
- Comfortable in dealing with very distinguished clientele
- Applicants must hold a valid South African Identity Document.
