Position: Automation and Control Engineer – Springs
Location: Springs
We are seeking an experienced and skilled Automation and Control Engineer to join our team in Springs, Gauteng. This role will ensure the optimal performance and integrity of electronic control systems within a dynamic manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in PLC programming, HMI/SCADA systems, industrial networks, and electronic system maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain the integrity and functionality of electronic control systems.
Ensure an up-to-date inventory of all electronic control systems.
Safeguard current backups for electronic systems in designated server locations.
Manage access to electronic control systems and coordinate the maintenance of hardware components and panels.
Compile critical electronic spares lists and maintain up-to-date technical information (manuals, electrical drawings, etc.).
Develop and manage project budgets and schedules.
Oversee the implementation of modifications and verify functionality through acceptance testing and documentation.
Coordinate the maintenance of plant computer equipment (SCADA PCs, servers) in collaboration with IT teams.
Work with IT to expand and maintain the industrial network infrastructure.
Assist production teams with data acquisition, fault-finding, and reporting.
Liaise with original equipment suppliers for technical support and troubleshooting.
Consult with the Group Automation & Control Project Manager to ensure project alignment.
Provide second-line problem-solving support during and after hours when required.
Continuously improve line control systems and optimize inspection equipment.
Qualifications &
Skills Required:
Education: Relevant tertiary qualification (NDip Electronics/Mechatronics, BEng Mechatronics, or BSc Electronics Engineering).
Proven track record of working in an FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) environment.
Strong computer literacy in MS Office (SAP PM’s knowledge is an advantage).
Minimum 5 years’ experience in the maintenance of electronic systems.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in PLC programming (Siemens).
Minimum 5 years’ experience in HMI/SCADA systems (Wonderware, Zenon, KHS, Krones, etc.).
Minimum 3 years’ experience in Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
Minimum 3 years’ experience in industrial networks (Profibus/Net, Ether Net).
