The Faculty of Education has a long history of productive engagement with the key issues facing education in South Africa. We offer innovative, research-based teacher education programmes and run large postgraduate programmes in various disciplines in education.

The School of Science and Mathematics Education (SSME), well-known for its research in Mathematics and Science education, invites applications for the post of Associate Lecturer in the field of Mathematics and Science Education with specialisation in the Senior and Further Education and Training (FET) phase teaching.

SSME seeks to appoint an academic who will teach Mathematics Education, participate in and substantially contribute to research and development work; and be involved in related Mathematics projects.

Minimum Requirements

An Honours Degree in Mathematics Education with a deeper / wider understanding of of issues related to the learning and teaching of mathematics in the Senior and Further Education and Training (FET) Phase/s.
Evidence of advanced progress in completing a Masters degree in Mathematic Education is required.
An undergraduate qualification with at least pure Mathematics (NQF level 6)
Experience in teaching Mathematics at tertiary level or in the Senior Phase (Grades 7-9) & FET Phase (Grades 10-12)

Recommendations / Added Advantages:

Experience in the development of teaching and learning materials
Experience in online and blended teaching approaches at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
Evidence of working with e-learning platforms and technology to teach, communicate with students and assess their learning
