About The Role
Sarens Siba (Pty) Ltd is seeking a motivated and safety-conscious Assistant Rigger to join a Wind Farm Project team. The successful candidate will support rigging and lifting operations by assisting with the preparation, inspection, handling, and maintenance of rigging equipment and lifting accessories. Working closely with Riggers, Crane Operators, and Site Supervisors, the Assistant Rigger will help ensure that all lifting activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company procedures, client requirements, and site safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Riggers in the preparation and execution of lifting, rigging, and load-handling activities.
- Support the inspection, cleaning, maintenance, and storage of rigging gear, lifting accessories, tools, and equipment.
- Assist with the assembly and dismantling of lifting arrangements as directed by the Rigger or Supervisor.
- Safely handle, move, and position rigging equipment and project materials on site.
- Participate in daily toolbox talks, start-work meetings, and safety briefings.
- Perform pre-use checks on rigging equipment and report any defects or damage immediately.
- Assist with crane setup, rigging activities, and site preparation tasks.
- Ensure lifting equipment is used in accordance with approved procedures and project requirements.
- Maintain good housekeeping standards within work areas, storage containers, and equipment laydown areas.
- Follow instructions from Supervisors, Riggers, and Project Management teams at all times.
- Adhere to all safety procedures, risk assessments, and lifting plans.
- Report safety observations, hazards, near misses, and incidents through the company reporting system.
- Support project teams during crane relocations, equipment mobilization, and demobilization activities.
- Maintain accurate records and assist with inspection and certification documentation where required.
- Contribute to a positive safety culture and support continuous improvement initiatives on site.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
- Relevant rigging training or lifting operations certification will be advantageous.
- Previous experience within construction, renewable energy, heavy lifting, crane operations, engineering, mining, or industrial environments.
- Basic understanding of lifting and rigging equipment, practices, and safety requirements.
- Physically fit and capable of working in demanding outdoor environments.
- Ability to work at heights and in varying weather conditions, subject to medical fitness requirements.
- Strong commitment to safety and compliance.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively within a multidisciplinary project team.
- Valid driver’s licence will be advantageous.
- Willingness to travel and work on remote project sites.
