Assistant/Researcher Jobs in South Africa at TMP Public C.I.C.

TMP Public is a small international non-profit that solves complex social, environmental and security problems. Our priority is improving understanding of and preparedness for the way that climate change will impact our institutions, systems, and lives over the next decade. We work with foundations, consultancies, businesses, NGOs, and governments to deliver concrete progress in areas like critical mineral supply chains, food security, biodiversity protection, sovereign debt, locally-led adaptation and infrastructure planning.

The Role

We are looking for a responsible, organized, and motivated person to be an Assistant/Researcher, supporting the work of our Analysts.

The primary responsibility of the job will be to provide organisational support, in addition to performing diverse qualitative and quantitative research tasks that include:

Investigating critical mineral supply chains, and to a lesser extent food supply chains, biodiversity issues, sovereign debt and locally-led adaptation.

Identifying and evaluating various sources of data and analysis.

Supporting the production of reports, presentations and similar external materials.

Identifying possible partners, target audiences and decision-makers.

Researching and producing briefs on a wide range of topics which are likely to be unfamiliar, from water management to mineral procurement.

This job requires you to work independently and affords a high level of flexibility. The company is based in the UK but operates globally, with time zone challenges to match. This is an ideal role for an ambitious candidate looking for diverse international experience with an innovative company.

Qualifications and skills

Strong organisational skills are required to schedule meetings and to communicate effectively internally between TMP staff and externally with our diverse partner network.

Excellent analytical and research skills are required; a relevant degree is desirable (e.g. in mining, geography, politics, economics, sociology, anthropology, development studies).

Strong understanding of the African context is desirable, particularly in sustainable development, minerals, food security, energy transitions, and biodiversity, with the flexibility to engage with global sustainability issues.

Expertise in minerals and energy is preferred, and additional experience in any one of international development, environmental management, climate, data science or financial investment is desirable.

Fluent English and ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.

Confidence in using IT (proficiency in Google Workspace and MS Office required, additional skills such as with geoprocessing, statistical analysis, GIS, or other relevant tools desirable).

Experience managing databases and performing data entry tasks with accuracy and attention to detail.
